Match Report Date 31/07/11 Oppo – ICCC (H) Type – 40 Overs Report by Liam Mulholland The return fixture between the Catholics always had the possibility of a spicy encounter and so it proved, still smarting from their early season hiding from the Catholics and licking their wounds from a rare defeat from the Presidents team last weekend the O`s were fully focused on victory.Batting first Marsh(52) and L.Mulholland(57) set the game up nicely with a stand of 144 for the 2nd wicket as the Catholic bowlers toiled on a hot afternoon a late flurry of wickets closed the innings on 177-6 a decent score with a strong bowling line up to defend it.At 28-3 Catholics were soon in trouble and things looked worse when a huge appeal for a snick behind from Captain Marvel Riches which brought the traffic in Barkingside to a standstill, with his bat still cold from being in the fridge at tea and dripping with vaseline Peter Pan somehow survived.Wickets continued to fall leaving the Catholics in a sorry position at 71-5 in the 23rd over game over surely but Riches helped by an explosive innings from Kogulan would not give in chipping away at the victory total when the gritty Riches departed for 41 in the 36th over and still 44 needed the game again looked over,Kogulan has other ideas and took it to the last over with 11 needed but very steady bowling by Hiscock denied Kogulan the boundaries he required forcing him to smash a 6 off the final ball from which he mustered 2 runs to remain unbeaten with a brave 53 to his name,O`s just edging home by 3 runs and the tour now awaits with spirits high in the camp.
