Match Report Date - 31/05/09 Oppo – Epping Foresters (a) Type – 40 Overs Report by Liam Mulholland. O's winning streak continued with a 26 run victory at a sunny Epping. On a glorious afternoon skipper Parkes leapt at the chance of batting after winning the toss, but after 4 overs James was caught off a top edge for 18. Normal amateur dramatics followed with yet another slow dejected walk back to his team mates with the line "that is the worst opening bowler I have ever faced in my 93 year career", someone did point out if that is so what the hell are you doing back here then. Hughes and Humphrey quickly followed James to the pavilion with Humphrey out first ball to cap off a disappointing week for the lad after the mighty Reds were humbled in Rome. Mulholland and Evans steadied the ship with a 85 run stand in 20 overs before Evans was caught for a well deserved 54,Parkes was trapped in front for a first career duck(really son) which allowed Tooth to join Mulholland to plunder a rapid 30 in a stand of 69 for the last 9 overs, Mulholland finishing on 75 Not Out. The O's then tucked into yet another legendry Foresters tea where conversation came to a halt for 20 minutes whilst players gorged on roast beef washed down by bowls of trifle. On taking the field it was soon obvious that certain players had over indulged on the food front, Parkes was keeping wicket for the first time for over 10 years so it was not helping his game to find Evans standing a slip with a nasty rumbling stomach something was going to give and in the same over Parkes let one trickle through his fingers and the ball rolled onto the helmet for the first penalty runs the club has ever conceded meanwhile Evans left the field to powder his nose for 8 overs. The O's attack all bowled good spells with our new spinning sensation Ramanuja turning the ball sideways on occasions. Evans was on the verge of returning to the field when he saw a sharpe leg break turn from outside leg to miss the off stump which sent him quickly back to trap one. Hazelton scored a fine 46 before being bowled in the spinners last over. The run rate kept climbing but despite the one over from Hughes that went for 15 the bowlers kept the lid on the run chase with Joy bowling very well in the last 7 overs from the pavilion end, so another win for the O's and off the field skipper Richardson has confirmed 7 players already for the first game of the 2010 season. Last word must go to the Foresters for their magnificent spread at tea and for making it a very pleasant afternoon for everybody.
