Report vs Presidents XI

Match Report
Date 27/07/14
Oppo – Presidents XI (h)
Type – 40 Overs
Report by Culd. N. Catchacold.

Someone once said ‘Catches win matches’ and how right they were as new records were broken with the O’s managing to
make an amazing 10 dropped catches not to mention numerous over throws – Suffice to say - It wasn’t pretty!
The O’s took on a Presidents XI and hoped to ensure a similar result to the last time they faced a Mulholland XI by
given them another absolute thrashing (Got over the 1984 hiding yet Li?)
With skipper Heed having most of his players pinched by Mulholland, it was very much a case of getting a team together
which Heed managed at the 11h hour and the Presidents XI won the toss and chose to have a bat with Sulosan and
Edgemeister (Sundeep) opening the innings.
For the O’s, an absent Riches (No commitment that guy!) meant it was Marsh who put on the gloves and he was left
wondering why when he dropped Sulosan and then found himself in the line of fire with a couple of beamers from Auton!
Unbelievably though as Heed dropped Sundeep (Yes you guessed it….. edge!) Marsh then took an absolute blinder removing
Gautam (for a golden) diving to his left off the bowling of Auton.
Revell (2-21) at the other end bowled a really good spell, keeping things tight and was rewarded with two wickets.
Firstly he removed Sundeep after Marsh took a catch behind following…….(Yes I know…….This is getting boring now…….
another edge!) and then he trapped Sulosan (43) LBW.
The Presidents XI then began to shore things up with Meadows & Chris Stephens keeping the runs ticking over. The O’s
needed another wicket and even with the tight bowling of The Tinder Tiger and Matty, the O’s could not find the
breakthrough (Although they weren’t helped by Gautum’s shocking umpiring by turning down an LBW decision to give Uncle
Arnie another go!)
Fortunately Arnie did not add too many when he was caught and when Meadows was ran out by an excellent direct hit by
Matty fielding at point, it was time for the O’s Nijinsky to make his mark!
Neal Patel came on and bowled an excellent spell picking up a couple of wickets although it could have been more had
the O’s not dropped a few more catches! Neal was less than amused when Ajay at mid-off ‘sprinted’ and dived Jonty
Rhodesesque looking like he was going to pull off an unbelievable effort. With the ball hanging in the air, Ajay
realised he still had time to pull off another stock market shaking deal but as he put New York on hold…….. the ball
had struck him in the stomach and the chance was gone denying young Neal his 3rd wicket!
The Presidents finished on 162 for 8 as both sides enjoyed a once again fantastic tea by Beryl!

With the O’s reluctant to face the angry oppo Presidents attack, it was Matty (8) and Simon who opened. Matty was
undone by a ball that kept ridiculously low off the bowling of Viggars. Ajay was soon back in the pavilion after he
was bowled by Viggars and when Chinster was caught for 2 off the bowling of Viggars (3-16) the O’s were in a bit of
trouble. Things went from bad to worse when Chintan forgot that in cricket you don’t have to run off every ball and
forced Heed to sprint a single which in doing so resulted in him picking up a rare injury - tearing his hamstring!
Heed forced to retire hurt meant the O’s were now in serious need of someone compiling a decent partnership and it
was Naylor and Marsh who did exactly that!
A fine array of shots meant with the O’s now needing less then 40 they were set for the win but when a ‘suicide LBW
decision’ from Chintan triggering Marsh, it was all down to Naylor. (Chinners – Liam said unfortunately a change of
circumstances means you are no longer in the ones next week but thanks for the LBW decision anyhow)
The O’s had hoped with Rasta still at the crease they could crawl over the line but when he was bowled by Stephens it
was game over. The O’s were finally bowled out for 125 (even after Heed went through the pain barrier to go out to see
if a win could miraculously be achieved!)
