Match Report Date - 27/07/08 Oppo – Presidents XI (h) Type – 40 Overs Report by Dave Revell On the hottest day of the year so far, all 21 players (Thanks Arnan!), put on a fine display of cricket and on the O's skippers part, a fine display of sledging, to the point that he's now called Ian "Ricky Ponting" Richardson. The president's XI batting first with Malcolm Kane playing his first game since the Bay City Rollers split, put on a fine opening partnership of 60 with Colin Emery. With fine catches getting rid of both players. The Presidents XI, then had good knocks from Peter Heaney, Paul Martin, Jack Hughes, Tom Watkins and Liam Mulholland, pushing a respectable but never enough 178 for 7. The O's started the reply after tea with James and Perera opening the batting. (Noticeably to no sledging!). They made an 11 partnership, when James played on a Jack Hughes bouncer. This brought the hard hitting Brian Allen to the wicket and he smashed 9 before being bowled by Tom Watkins (Dad - take note - TOM WATKINS, not DAD Gary.) This brought the dogged O's keeper, Martin (I did stump him ump) Riches to the crease and he made a solid partnership with Perera until the latter was out. This in turn saw the revitalised Macro bat of Alan Wicks enter the fray. With his confidence sky high after his recent batting performances, he continued his fine form hitting a great 42 before he was out knackered to Dad Watkins. However, Parkes then came to the wicket and smashed a quick fire 39 n.o to win the match for the O's along with Martin Riches 41 N.O. Well done Lads.
