Match Report
Date 27/06/10
Oppo – Church Langley & Potter Street (a)
Type – 40 Overs
Report by Liam Mulholland.

O`s stormed to victory with only 10 men on the hottest day of the season whilst our national football team capitulated
to the Germans. Our calm & ever so friendly keeper Riches last minute recruitment policy of play or die worked as he
literally forced 3 players from the Catholic 2`s to play in sweltering conditions at Church Langley & Potter Street,
still 1 man short the last thing they needed was to field first and skipper Heed called incorrectly and in the field they
were sent. O`s started with a blond attack of Tooth and 14 year old debutant Oliver Graham both bowlers quickly handing
the umpires their factor 50 sun cream the smart money on both being sunburnt by the end of their first over. CL&PS openers
were quickly away with the fast outfield helping to move the score along. Tooth struck first aided by a wonderful one
handed diving catch by skipper Heed who remarkably managed the whole process without injury. Tooth looked like he claimed
a 2nd wicket when he had Bastola trapped in front for a certain LBW but it was turned down as the umpire had the view it
was going under the wicket. The introduction of Hillier & Hiscock slowed the scoring down with the only runs coming via
the wides column, unless the ball was slamming into the middle of the bat there was a fair chance you would be called for
a wide, after a Hillier delivery that just drifted past off stump was called both bowler & keeper promptly threw all toys
out of their prams to all parts of Harlow. After another LBW was refused and a certain run out denied open Armstrong danced
down and was promptly stumped by Riches but on glancing to square leg saw the shake of the head of the ump, only a batsman
with the feet the size of Gulliver could have got back fortunately opener Armstrong is a very wise man sensing the possible
explosion from Riches he decided to walk for his own self preservation for a well played 59. The O`s toiled in the burning
sun and unrelenting outfield and did well to keep the hosts to 227-3 with another debutant Deepak claiming 2-31. For the
first time ever there was a rush to get the umpire coats and 3 were ripped to shreds in the mad scramble to start the
innings Hillier made it quite clear revenge was in the air as he sat through tea with his umpires coat on breaking from
his food to do some arm stretching movements. The O`s started well with Hillier flapping like a seagull as the extras
quickly racked up, Riches departed for 1 in the 7th over with the score on 43 !. Mulholland and Tooth looked set for a big
partnership but Mulholland departed LBW for 38 with the score on 82. Tooth meanwhile continued his fine run playing some
wonderful shots as he raced to 50 he now received good support from the edgemeister Barot yet another debutant who assisted
Tooth in an unbroken stand of 117 in 16 overs for the 4th wicket, Tooth hitting the winning boundary in the 37th over to
finish unbeaten on a fine 107. Wides finished on a beautifully constructed 39. After a month on the road the O`s are back
at Home to Walthamstow next week looking to build on this fine win.
