Report vs South Loughton

Match Report
Date 27/05/12
Oppo – South Loughton (h)
Type – 40 Overs
Report by Dr.Oppedit

On a long-awaited warm summers day the heat bore down on Costa Del Barkingside, the scene set for a
good afternoon of cricket. A stark contrast from the sub-zero temperatures of the previous week had
changed Jamie ‘Frozen’ Hamberger to a very well ‘Char-grilled’ version under the searing heat. Only the
sesame seed bun was missing to make the perfect finish.

On with the game. The O’s won the toss and elected to bat, in that heat there was going to be no second
thoughts on that decision!

The long grassed outfield was always going to restrict the run rate and although Eddie had steam-rollered
the wicket for several hours, the effects of the recent Chilean Miners activity (see previous match reports
for details) had rendered the wicket slow and hard work to play off. Jay Williams concentrated and worked
hard for a very good 46, and to show how hard runs were to come by Eddie pushed 28 singles in his score of
52. The run-rate ticked over at a steady 4 per over, resulting in the O’s reaching 165-5 at the end of their
allotted 40 overs.

The score seemed quite reasonable with everyone agreeing that it would take some good batting from the oppo
to win this game. The batting turned out to be more than good with Rahman’s devastating blows taking him to
110 not out as the visitors raced to the finish in 28 overs. Rahman gave no chances and was very deserving of
the century. Both of the O’s opening bowlers, Dan and Harry Auton, bowled decent spells occasionally troubling
the batsmen, but once the batsmen had their eye in the result was going to be a formality. The opening stand
of 156 ended with Hussain (39) lbw to Riches and the following over, with a wicket down and the O’s sniffing
the possibility of a remarkable comeback, Mulholland picked up the wicket of Farthing in his first over, a
fine catch on the boundary from Hiscock, who had fielded so well all day. The final seven runs were knocked
off over the following couple of overs, a comfortable eight wicket win for SLCC.

O’s now dust themselves down and get prepared for an awayday to Epping Foresters.
