Oppo – President's XI (h)
Type – 40 Overs
Report by Ed Tooth

Humming "Fog on the Tyne" and still buzzing from Orient's 6-1 thrashing of Newcastle the previous day, club President Simon Fellman
presided over an enjoyable game at South Woodford, the supporters edging to victory over the Presidents side.
Bowling first Wicks and Parkes started well keeping the President XI openers under pressure early on. Big Al made an immediate
breakthrough bowling Kumar with an inswinging yorker. Costin picked off the runs helped by the supporters fielding and made a
useful 43. However after a 10 year sabbatical Alexander was cruelly run out for 0 by "Yes, No, Maybe" Nige. Nine lives Costin was
finally caught by Jones off the bowling of Walker and scooted back into the clubhouse through the catflap for some well earned milk.
Humphrey joined the fray and after the obligatory padding up lunge fest, leading to Walker impersonate Zebedee from the Magic
Roundabout with his LBW appeals, played some excellent shots in a well crafted 33 before getting caught at mid on.
A late flurry of runs from Joe Tousent pushed the President's XI score to 161 - a competitive total given the slow pitch and wet outfield.
After feasting on the tealadys large melons James and Cooper opened up for the supporters. James was caught in the gully off spinner
Humphrey and took a slow 5 hour walk back to the pavilion dragging his bat all the way.
The Presidents XI were encouraged by the breakthrough and Watkins Snr thundered in from the top end and soon made his mark.
Hughes eyes lit up like one of Coops fags from a particularly slow one from Watkins, ran down the wicket and in his own words
"imagined it sailing past the bowlers head". Unfortunately he forgot to hit it and was bowled. Cooper, Wicks and Allen were then all
bowled by the mesmerising Humphrey and the supporters were struggling at 45-5. Rob Jones offered resistance picking off the bad
balls and with support from Tooth began to build the score. Some textbook massive heaves from Jones sending the ball into orbit
made a dent in the run chase and things were looking up for the supporters. However the Presidents side kept the pressure up and the
O's still needed 5 or 6 an over with 10 overs to go - but one or two expensive overs and a couple of drop catches swung the game,
and the supporters were home and dry with two over's to spare. The players then preceded to the clubhouse and decided to trade the
warm down and ice baths for chips, cake and beer - finishing off an enjoyable day for all.
