Oppo – South Loughton (h)
Type – 40 Overs
Report by I.M.Gorgeous

The O's looking to build on their 'controversial' victory against Woodford Green 7 days ago (See delayed match report) were
up against South Loughton at the glorious Barkingside Rec on Sunday. Knowing that there was 10,000 hot dogs and a mountain
of chips, the tactical decision by skipper Marsh was to have a bowl first (Well done skip - Good job!) and the O's got off
to a steady start restricting the oppo to just 2 an over after some good bowling by Wicks who surprisingly kept his cool
after what perhaps could have been a catch at square leg. (He didn't even suggest changing the fielder this week? - Is he
going soft?) South Loughton then got back in the game with a 24 run over from a very jetlagged Revell that had the local
residents racing around looking for Insurance Policies just in case some serious damage was done! Marsh took pity on the
recently newly wed to ensure that any potential record was not broken and replaced him with Riches who found the breakthrough
after picking up another wicket for the club after Jones snicked one behind to Matty. The oppo scratched around on what again
was a very slow outfield and then came the game changer................Enter the Chinster!
An absolutely 'gorgeous' spell of bowling saw 'Chinny' picking up 2 wickets & cause chaos for the oppo including picking up
the valuable wicket of Rahman who had recorded a ton last year against the O's. Mulholland who also looked like he had drunk
some of the same Jamaican rum as Revell but managed to recover & chipped in with a couple of wickets after getting one to
move bowling Kaiser who was bitterly disappointed as there was only 6 balls left in the over. After what looked early on
like a tough total the O's restricted South Loughton to 163-8 off the 40 overs.
Both sides then entered the pavilion thinking they had mistakenly walked into 'The Great British Bake off festival' - Hot,
Dogs, Chips, Home-made cup cakes, Sarnies.........the lot (even the organic 100% chicken stuff)
After destroying the hot-dogs, both Arnie and Tooth opened the batting and found life difficult both being dismissed early
and sent back to the pavilion (Looks as though they both gave up their wickets to get stuck in to some more hot-dogs was
the rumour around the rec). The O's once again found themselves struggling with the bat & the chase was now becoming an
uphill task. After Revell 14, Hamburger (first baller) and Hiscock (9) were also dismissed it was left to Mulholland and
Marsh to try and finish the job - Both batted well and looked as though they were going to see the O's home until
Mulholland was given LBW after a decent knock. Riches joined Marsh at the crease and both batted well smashing some singles
to continue the never ending run chase which still seemed possible until skipper Marsh holed out to point on 41.
The 'chinmeister' entered the crease and local bookies were refusing to take bets on whether he would win it with a
'gorgeous' six but it wasn't to be. Having needed 14 off 2 overs & 'the chindog' on strike ....it then became 14 off 1 over
- Game over with the O's falling short by 9 runs.
'It should have been me' the sobbing Wicks was heard to say as he came down the swings on the adventure playground.
After a few beers later and Marsh's toothache still making it presence felt, the O's found themselves again discussing the
inconsistency that has troubled them this season.
Wicks was seen leaving the ground with his arm around Chinners saying 'Don't worry son, let's room together on tour and we
wil av a right sort out............. but next time leave it to me!)
Epping Foresters next................Hope Wardy doesn't bring those pit-bull terriers!
