Report vs Old Sectonians

Match Report
Date 25/08/13
Oppo – Old Sectonians (h)
Type – 40 Overs
Report by Maddy Whites

A slightly damp Barkingside Recreational Ground saw the mighty O's picked off yet another challenger in the form of Old
Sectonians. The oppo seemed slightly surprised when they arrived at the ground which 24 hours earlier had taken more water
than a Japanese Tsunami - 'You NEVER get a cancellation over here boys' the oppo were told as they looked on at the quad
mire cricket square which had more sawdust than a carpenters workshop. With another hot-dog tea in mind (No chips mind you?
- Martin - Can you have a word please?), the O's were happy to put on their armbands and take to the field.
Skipper Heed decided to open up with Auton and Graham who both bowled exceptionally well keeping things very tight mounting
the earlier pressure on Old Sectonians. Heed decided to bowl both openers through and the overs were moving along nicely
until the exam pressure finally took it's a toll on 'Headcase' Graham when he mentally cracked after being called for
a 'questionable' wide. The young wicks impressionist was not impressed and made his feelings known 'Do you not know that I
went to Forest school which is an upstanding academy of excellence for young cricketers' he cried…………'A wide????? This is
an insult…….How dare you call me for a wide''
Meanwhile a chap known as 'fruit loop' kept the fielders entertained with his Usain Bolt impressions on the boundary which
was a cross between Steve Hillier and Forrest Gump (Fruitloop confirmed he is available for next week Si if your interested?)
Auton finally made the breakthrough with an excellent caught and bowled which then prompted the opposition to finally start
hitting the ball off the square. Once the openers were finished, Heed gave debutant Manchanda the ball who impressed and
picked up a couple of wickets whilst Revell at the other end also picked up another wicket for the club which saw him pass
Mike Randall up to 9th in the all time leading wicket takers with a 136.
Late call-up Anujan was brought into the attack and bowled exceptionally well picking up an outstanding 4-17 whilst Matty
also picked up a couple of late wickets to wrap up the innings with Old Sectonians being bowled out for 143.

Riches and Zaman opened the innings for the O's and an early shout was turned down by Les Edwards when Zaman was alleged to
of snicked one behind. The oppo weren't complaining for long though as there was no doubt when Zaman (8) clearly middled one
of the bowling of Jazz to face the long swim back to the pavilion. Rumbold added 3 runs before being caught bringing skipper
Heed to the crease. As soon as the skipper put the lid on, a tote desk opened up taking bets on what injury would take place
'I'll give you evens he pulls a hammy or 6/4 he does an ankle''
Heed (22) surprised all though and played a nice injury-free innings until sportingly walking for a run out (Yes - Walking
for a run out). Matty joined Riches at the crease with Marvel taking the lead and doing an excellent job in keeping the
score ticking over nicely. Marvel with always a game plan in mind made the instructions loud and clear ''Right the plan here
son is I need 64 minimum to overtake Marshy as top run scorer so give me the strike and I will do the business!''
Bish, bash, bosh from Marvel the O's were edging closer to home. Matty (19 Not out) at the other end kept the singles ticking
over and allow Marvel (83 not out) to hit the winning runs and finish the job he started.

An excellent 7 wicket victory and with the afternoon going swimmingly the O's returned to the bar to share a beverage with
the social oppo who were still scratching their heads as to how on earth the game was played!

Next week……………Get ready for the battle of the top wicket-taker - Wicks is back!
