Match Report Date 24/04/16 Oppo ICCC (h) Type 35 Overs Report by Charles D’ Freez Skipper Liam Mulholland used all his experience by electing to field in a 35 over game - Safe in the knowledge that come 17:00 the temperature around Barkingside Rec was due to hit -20 degrees! Dave Revell and Matt Hiscock were the frightening opening bowling attack and it wasn’t long before the Catholics were in a spot of trouble. Revell (1-22) demonstrating that last years injury has not affected him in any way shape or form picked up an early wicket whilst Hiscock picked up his LOSCC career best figures of 4-17 (Would have been a 5 wicket haul had Mo not dropped a sitter at slip – To be fair he was wearing nine jumpers, 2 scarfs, a wooly hat and some mittens) The Catholics were in a spot of bother at 39 for 5 but Karan Shah (Chindog’s brother) came to the crease batted incredibly well with a score of 44 (probably worth a few more on a dry afternoon). He didn’t get much support and once Ollie Marsh (1-32) picked up his first wicket of the season with a plumb LBW it was left to Salman Rana to try and clean up the tail. His first three deliveries were no balls as he tried to break to speedometer (That’s ya lot in league cricket son…..but luckily we play friendlies!) Once he found his length though he picked up some very tidy figures of 3-10 wrapping up the innings which saw the Catholics all out for 128. The bar at tea had never been so heavily populated but for once it wasn’t alcohol being requested, it was a nice hot cup of Tetley’s! A splendid tea kindly prepared by Liam (Loved the Swiss roll by the way!) was soon dispatched and the O’s started to focus on getting their first win of the campaign. Marvel and Khalid (Salman’s Dad) opened the innings and got off to a very steady start until Khalid was bowled by Rajiv for 15 (A very decent effort) Marvel continued to tick the scoreboard and he made a solid 24 until being caught off the bowling of Rajiv (2-20). With Eddie Tooth and Mo Zaman now at the crease, the O’s slowly worked towards the target but it was very challenging in the unforgiving conditions. Zaman pulled one off the middle which would normally end up by the swings on a July afternoon, however the outfield, damp and cold prevented it from even reaching the boundary and he was rewarded with a single. Spells from Rajiv and Ashok keeping things tight meant the outcome would be close…….Fortunately for the O’s though, Tooth (39 Not out) showed that late nights changing nappies has not effected his concentration levels and 2015 POTY Zaman (40 Not Out) supported to see the O’s get over the line in the final over winning the match by 8 wickets.
