Match Report Date 24/04/11 Oppo – Ilford Catholic CC (h) Type – 40 Overs Report by Ed Tooth. The first game of the season saw the O's back at Barkingside Recreation Ground, after their tenancy at South Woodford, to entertain Ilford Catholics Sunday XI. At 25 degrees skipper Revell opted to bat on a dry pitch however the Orient batsmen struggled to find their form against some very good bowling from Anujan Thiru and Gowtam Rajasegaran. A few early wickets fell and Jones was caught by a spectacular effort from Deepak Singh at deep cover. Marsh then departed for 29 and Tooth added some extra runs to the total before being bowled for 24. The O's lost wickets at regular intervals and only managed to post a disappointing 103 on the board. Deepak Singh finished up with 4-20 from his spell for the catholics. In reply Oliver Graham took a couple of early wickets and at 18 for 2 the pressure was on the batting side. Harry Meadows bowled great lines and lured Sandeep Barot into elbowing one to the keeper from which he was given out. Martin Runeckles, on his debut, saw lots of turn off the pitch but unfortanately couldn't make the breakthrough. Revell snared a great catch in the deep to dismiss Kumar which offered the Orient supporters some hope but catholics skipper Riches and Madhavan steadied the ship, and despite trying to run each other out at regular intervals, secured the win for the catholics. A good game played in great spirit, however the O's batting let themselves down and 103 was never enough to make a game of it. As dusk fell over barkingside, the park was illuminated by catholics skipper Riches beaming grin as he smoked 150 marlboroughs and gave 53 post match team talks to celebrate.
