Oppo – South Loughton (h)
Type – Timed Game
Report by Liam Mulholland.

On the first sunday of the season that you could safely leave jumpers and brollys at home the day started with a
problem when the new 2010 Terminator model cried off due to overheating in the sunshine the previous day and had to
be rushed back to the factory for minor adjustment all other models where immediately withdrawn from various showrooms
worldwide until the fault is rectified.Well Termo old son a bad day to miss for a batsman,South Loughton won the toss
and in the sweltering heat the hard taskmaster of a skipper thought he would punish his team mates by fielding first,
you are a bad man Mr Henman. After a fine opening spell from young A.Pickston who surely should have come back later
in the innings Tooth and James started to get on top as the temperature continued to rise, after a run of quick singles
of the last ball of the over by the greedy Tooth, near disaster struck as James staggered around the crease holding
his chest, the quick singles, the searing heat and being denied the strike clearly too much for the Peter Pan of cricket,
could this be the moment when he goes to that cricket club up above where the wicket is always flat and the sun shines
all day, would he be leaving us as he always dreamed of in his pads excalibur in hand and Not Out at the crease but
after a lengthy delay with the commotion of the air ambulance, para medics, consultants, nurses and a wheelbarrow load
of various pills and morphine the 84 year old rose to his feet and wobbled off into the shade after changing into his
hospital gown.Tooth meanwhile covered his face with so much sun cream he looked like a 2 year enjoying their first
ice cream.Allen joined Tooth at the crease and the run rate upped as well as the temperature the canny Henman parked
himself in the only shady part of the ground whilst his team mates where crumbling in the relentless burning sun.
Allen departed for a quick 12 to bring Kumar to the crease and immediately joined in the run feast as the toiling
bowlers were pumped to all parts of Essex. The 9 year old highest individual score of 176 looked in danger early on in
the innings and so it proved as Tooth raced to his 100 then quickly onto 150 and finally as the fielders were now on
their last legs Tooth took his score to 177 with a leg glance,a great individual achievement from a fine cricketer,
the carnage was brought to end with the O`s declaring on 268-1 Kumar unbeaten on 54 in an unbroken stand of 160.
The run chase was always going to be difficult but enduring those fielding conditions totally impossible as the O`s
reduced Sth Loughton to 126-7 at the close but the visitors held on easily claiming the draw,,James making a Lazarus
like return to the game pouching 2 slip chances for his 1,283 and 1,284 career catch he did also drop 2 but after
receiving the last rites earlier in the day he is excused for once.Hiscock had a tidy return of 3-20 which will be
recorded rather than his 3-98 which luckily for him was washed from the record books the week before.A trip to
Foresters awaits the O`s as their unbeaten run goes on.
