Report by Ed Tooth.

On a blustery day at Barkingside Leyton Orient Supporters chose to bat first vs South Loughton on a flat even track.
Due to the late appearance of Bob James, who was unfortunately held up by the catch of a 300lb Blue Marlin at Herne Bay,
the opening spot of the bearded trawlerman was nabbed by Martin Riches who joined Mulholland to the crease in the
60mph winds. The innings got off to a good start until Liam was bowled for 7 by Amos, who was getting some good in-swing
in the strong winds. Eddie then joined Martin for a stand of 88, including some good running between the wickets and
boundaries from Riches. Martin looked set for a big score but unfortunately top edged one and departed for 33 which brought
Skipper Simon Heed to the crease, and after a couple of trade mark pulls Simon was caught by an excellent catch at deep mid-wicket
for 13. Eddie then reached his fifty but on 71 completely missed, and was bowled by, a big full toss which seemed to be
the stock wicket taking ball of the day. At 148 for 4 the supporters hopes of a big score were in question, however big
Arnie, the Butcher of Barkingside, threw his king size Twix to one side in defiance, and strode the wicket to wreak more
carnage on the South Loughton bowlers. Joined by debutant Madhavan Bakthavatchalam, or "Mad-o" for short, they put on a
great stand of 91, Arnie finishing on 61 not out. In the last over Madhavan lost his wicket for an excellent quick-fire
42 and so Bob came in at the end to smash a boundary with a massive carp he had caught earlier.

Following tea Dave Revell wisely chose the top end leaving Steve Hillier to bowl up the slope and into "Hurricane Gants Hill"
which led to some speculation as to whether it was possible to concede byes in front of the wicket if the ball gets blown
back in mid air and past the bowler for 4. South Loughton started well but were behind the run rate early on and regularly
lost wickets; Ravi and Matt Hiscock both bowled very well, picking up figures of 2-26 and 2-30 respectively from their 8 overs.
At 88-5, with the game in limbo, skipper Heed turned to I.T. Botham, sorry, Martin Riches, and Martin immediately tore
through the South Loughton innings with 3 wickets... and a run out...and a catch - to cap off another great weekend for the
Riches Cricket Machine (RCM). South Loughton finished on 123 for 9 to complete a very comprehensive victory for the O's
and so everyone retired to the clubhouse to listen to fisherman's friend Bob James rousing sea shanties, alongside tales
of shark infested waters and 50lb pike.
