Match Report Date 21/08/11 Oppo – Walthamstow (H) Type – 40 Overs The Orient supporters fell 13 runs short of a victory against Walthamstow on Sunday chasing down 167 at Barkingside. Walthamstow chose to bat first and came out blazing scoring 4 and 5 an over. Then disaster struck as Al Wicks pulled a hamstring after 4 overs and the O’s feared that it could be a long afternoon in the field. However Martin Riches stepped in and bowled an excellent spell of 8 overs for 31 to stem the runs and picked up three wickets including the middle order batsmen of Bonser and Bennett. With 16 overs left the spin twins of Hiscock and Runeckles faced a tough ask to keep the runs to a minimum but did a fantastic job restricting Walthamstow to only 169. Martin Runeckles bowled particularly well with good flight and turn, spinning the ball both ways to bamboozle the Walthamstow batsmen with a series of off breaks, leg breaks, arm balls, googlies, doosras, teesras, dopiazas and jalfrezis. Martin finished with figures of 8-0-24-2, a great effort. 167 was chasable and the O’s got off to a steady start. However the two Bobs were dismissed for low scores but Eddie and Liam put on a partnership of 70 reducing the chase to 60 off the last ten overs. Ed reached fifty but then hit a full toss straight to mid on and was caught. Walthamstow bowler R Thompson Jnr bowled very tight lines and was hard to get away, and despite some big hits from Maddie at the end and a fifty from Liam the O’s fell just short of the required target.
