Match Report Date 21/05/17 Oppo Woodford Green (h) Type 40 Overs Report by Liam Mulholland O’s arrived at the QE2 Field for their home game v Woodford Green determined to get their first win of the season after 3 narrow defeats. After the heavy rain of the last few days the sun showed a welcome appearance unfortunately O’s were batting on a very slow and low track, Batting was tough throughout the innings, good contributions from Barot 30 & Minky 29 set a solid platform, skipper B.Marsh and the ageing veteran Mulholland looked likely to set a good score but Marsh was given out LBW for the 6,787th time in his career, ending a promising partnership. The incoming batsman found the going far from easy and Mulholland ran out of partners leaving him stranded on 45. 136 all out looked a low score but O’s knew this would be a difficult chase. And so it proved as skipper Marsh used his bowlers shrewdly backed up by solid fielding the O’s defended their total exceptionally well. Zaman pick of the figures with a brilliant spell of 2-14 to finish the innings off. Karan Shah continued his fine run of form with another tidy return of 2-17. Green finished on 103-7, a splendid winning margin of 33 runs for the home team. Minky after a marathon boozing session on the Saturday celebrated the win with yet more booze even though his head was still spinning from the ear bashing he received from his good lady after his drunken arrival home. Woodham Mortimer to arrive next week another early start with a bank holiday to follow, more bar stock required a certainty.
