Match Report Date - 20/07/08 Oppo – High Beach (A) Type – 40 Overs Report by Trevor McDonald No it’s not a mistake we did win… and by a lot! The reshuffled O’s pack welcomed back Adam Parkes, Simon “me backs gone” Heed and Craig Perera (who turned up on time!) plus little Brian Allen for his first game in long time. Batting first in windy conditions the O’s began in fine fashion with the old boy Mulholland carrying on his fine form which has lasted since 1985 and flat track bully Headmaster Bob James got some decent runs, as well as starting a punch up with the oldest member of the opposition – combined ages 217! After an opening stand of 125 the good work was continued by Eddie Tooth and the new LOSCC batting sensation, big boy Al Wicks, who has now given up bowling to concentrate on smashing the ball as hard as he can, in order to demonstrate to his sponsors at Macro that he is due a brand new bat. A fantastic effort by the O’s - resulting in 235 for 5 off their allotted 40 overs. With Eddie Tooth having had too much custard with his chocolate pudding at tea and big boy Wicks now retired from bowling, The O’s new look opening attack of Parkes and erm… Richardson! ripped the heart out of the star studded international standard High Beach top order and at 4-4 there was talk of the famous Old Parks 11 all out being beaten! This didn’t last long as Brooks scored a classy 50 particularly taking a liking to the tiring opening paceman Richardson. The introduction of Perera and young Dan Riches restored order as they dismantled what remained of the High Beach batting – Every ball bowled by Dan was applauded and cheered by the proud and emotional Martin Riches behind the stumps. Unfortunately Martin was so wrapped up in his little boys performance that he forgot to catch the edge that came to him from Dan’s bowling – but nobody said anything to him about it ………. not much anyway! High Beach were all out for 97. A great all round performance from the O’s, probably our biggest win runs wise for a number of years – have we turned the corner? Probably not, but in the words of John Sitton: - “we will take a win wherever we can get one” All at LOSCC would like to thank Alan Wicks for his bowling efforts over the years and wish him well in his retirement now he is just a batsman.
