Report vs Hockerill

Match Report
Date 20/06/10
Oppo – Hockerill (a)
Type – Timed game
Report by Liam Mulholland.

The O`s stopped the rot with a battling draw in a strange game at Hockerill. On yet another chilly Sunday the O`s were
boosted by the sight of their President Mr Simon Fellman who after reading about last weeks debacle thought it wise to
check what is going on with the team after hearing old stories of past Hockerill visits which including the girl on the
bar stool after the match with the very short skirt our spirits were lifted and immediately Skipper Heed continued the
trend winning the toss in a time game and electing to bat on what looked a good track. Wickets can be deceiving and this
was one of those as most O`s batters started well and then found the going harder the longer they stayed at the crease
eventually losing their wickets as by now they were hopelessly out of form the one exception being Silva who hit a
sparkling 59, after 3 hours skipper Heed called a halt not because of the length of the innings more the fact that Ravi
had not gone this long without food for many a day. As usual Heed was in the wars again with a ricked neck, disc problem,
calf strain and twisted testicle due to stretching too far for that last jam tart at tea. The weather remarkably changed
and the temperatures rose considerably which left our man of many clothes Bob James in a bit of quandary short sleeve,
long sleeve, long sleeve jumper, sleeveless jumper, waistcoat, smoking jacket, what will he wear he had not seen weather like
this since the game in the 1922 season against Old Dobbonians extra 5ths when he got so confused he took to the field in
just a woolen jock strap and one boot. O`s target of 168 was normally well under par for this ground so they needed early
wickets and Silva quickly struck removing Tinsley for 0, unfortunately this brought the young Sanders to the crease who
canned the O`s last year with a ton, the left, right hand combo caused trouble for not only Silva who chopped from over to
round but also Heed who was on the verge of popping his shoulder out continually moving the sight screen when Silva came
up with a compromise and bowled right arm through. Batting for Sawbridgeworth 1st eleven on a Saturday and then faced with
the O`s attack a quick finish looked on the cards with Sanders at the crease but Ramanuja and Hiscock bowled very well
making life difficult for the batters with Ramanuja nicking wickets the run rate slowly rose and when Sanders was out for
an excellent 68 41 was still required off 7 overs. The hosts on losing their main man downed tools and played out the
remaining overs with Walker coming on for the last over collecting a wicket with his first ball of the season.
Ramanuja completed a marathon spell unchanged of 20-5-60-4(Rav if you can`t get a 5 wicket haul after that spell you will
never get one)and then charged into the bar and ate 4 ham rolls and half the barman's arm. Hockerill finishing 34 short of
victory and the O`s 3 wickets from the win.
