Match Report Date 19/07/15 Oppo South Loughton (a) Type 40 Overs Report by Simon Heed The third meeting of these two teams in as many months saw the O’s looking for a hat-trick of wins. It was a hot and sunny day and the pitch as hard as concrete. Andy Battle won the toss for South Loughton and elected to bat. His decision to bat seemed to be proving right as the Chugtai brothers got into their stride taking apart the bowling of Baker-Merry and also tried to give Al Wicks a run for his money. The first eight overs saw South Loughton race to 50 with ease, until the wily and experienced Richardson came to the fore and with the help of a magnificent stumping by Riches, the first wicket fell. Some decent middle order batting made it look like a big total could be reached, and with the runs being piled on, skipped Heed turned to Oliver Marsh to slow things down. One of the best bowling spells of the season then ensued as Marsh picked off the batters one by one. Top scorer, S Chugtai reached 83 before Bob Marsh caught him off the bowling of his son. South Loughton still reached 224-9, but the star of the show was Oliver Marsh taking 4-41 in his eight overs. In reply, Jay Williams and Sube opened the batting, both looking well set until Sube had a lapse of concentration and was run out. Mo Zaman and Bob Marsh played an important supporting role as Jay Williams played a classy innings and deservedly got his century. The O’s made chasing a decent score look easy, getting there with four overs in hand and six wickets to spare. Another good game for the O’s and possibly the first hat-trick of wins over one oppo in a season.
