Match Report Date 19/05/13 Oppo Woodford Green (h) Type 40 Overs Report by Ian Fleming The O's were looking to return to winning ways after the demolition at Octopussy & this was very much a case of 'For your Eyes Only Umpire!' - Read on .. After losing the toss the O's were put into bat but the quick wickets of Morgan, Riches, Hamburger & Ajay Patel reduced the home side to 41-4 and put them in serious trouble! It could have been a lot worse for the O's when the major talking point of the afternoon came very early into the innings of Tooth who appeared to be been run out backing up. The appeals and screams were absolutely deafening (so much so some of the kids down by the swings had to be taken away by their mums in tears). Things then unfortunately took a turn for the worse when the umpire (I.C Nothing) was allegedly heard on the phone to his Indian Bookmaker saying 'give me odds on an Eddie ton' astoundingly shook his head and said 'Oh ..hmmmmm sorry lads I didn't see it!'The oppo weren't happy, although to be fair the big call didn't have too much affect as Tooth (108 not out) and Hiscock (32) did a good job of seeing saw off the openers who had caused problems early doors and digging in on an incredibly slow outfield to put on 120 for the 5th wicket partnership (most came in all run 5s & 6s) - Any chance the council can get the grass cut one week? After a delightful Beryl tea (as always), the O's took to the field a stone heavier and looked as though they were in for a tough session as Green quickly got the scoring moving before Dan Auton (2-26) came on and took a wicket with his first delivery with Matty flying right across Hamburger at 1st slip to gobble up a catch with the gloves. Woodford Green were always in it although if truth be told they needed someone like 'The Dentist' ( Remember him .the boy who went on to make 108 not out?) to build an innings if they were to claim a victory. The O's bowlers put in a sterling performance including 'Flash' Gordon who responded well after his absolute hammering 2 weeks beforehand (Has anyone retrieved those cricket balls yet?) and youngsters Morgan (2-26) and N Patel (1-13) who both impressed with the ball in hand. Some excellent fielding and bowling display all round saw the O's to victory with proceedings finally wrapped up by a stumping (Or was it a run-out?) off of Captain Marvel (1-12) on the last ball of the innings restricting Green to 135 for 7 & ensuring a home victory by 26 runs! A fine display of umpiring and a game played in the right spirit (except the lad who stormed off crying at tea & refused to eat one of Beryl's sausage rolls until the umpire admitted it was out!)
