Report vs Theydon Bois

Match Report
Date 18/08/13
Oppo – Theydon Bois (a)
Type – 40 Overs
Report by Anthony Hopkins

The O's travelled to Theydon Bois hoping to avoid a third defeat on the bounce and the early signs were good when Theydon
took to the field minus Rob Bullivant who normally accounts for 95% of the runs for the home side.
Unfortunately the first ball of the innings saw a somewhat gun-ho Mulholland chase a medium pace half tracker 3 ft wide of
off stump and with steam coming out his ears he chipped one up to first slip. This capped a disastrous end to the week for
Liam who only a few days earlier had been run out for a duck on what allegedly was 'an easy single'
That brought Rumbold Jr to the crease who scored a quick 14 until being clean bowled bringing debutant Kartik Venkatakrishna
(normal spelling) to the crease. Kartik didn't last long and added 2 runs to the board before being given what looked a
straight forward LBW.
Matty came to the crease to try and steady the ship with Riches, unfortunately Marvel (22) who never really got going was
bowled not longer after and Matt (11) got cleaned up by an off-cutter leaving the O's struggling with less than 100 on the
board.
Similar to those that had gone before both Marsh (15) & Heed (11) got in and then got out again with some soft dismissals.
Some snotty little kid picked up the wickets of Revell (7) and Richardson (2) and celebrated his second as though the O's
had got promotion - Bit over the top but then the wicket of Richardson is a prized asset……………….
Things soon quietened down in the 35th over when the Theydon wicketkeeper (Hannibal Lecter) then decided to take off his
mysterious mask and almost saw a 'little chianti' of his own with the ball striking him on the head - Mulholland who was
umpiring at the other end immediately put his nightmare week aside, rushed to the scene to check on the poor chaps health,
clearly concerned about the 'chirpy' oppo who had taken 9 and a half hours to bowl their overs. Matty meanwhile at square
leg who had sportingly decided to hold the mask, decided to kindly offer the protective mask back to the chap 'just in case
it happens again' - The offer was surprisingly declined.
To improve the situation Dan Auton (18) and Oliver Graham (18) put on a magnificent last wicket stand playing some excellent
shots including a sensational cover drive from Auton which I am told by his agent (Uncle Jay) will feature on his new DVD to
be released at xmas- Autons Cricket Moments - A real stocking filler comprising of Wickets, shin stoppers, bouncers, beamers
and much much more! Bonus points include 12 hours of nets footage taken before matches and a feature length interview with
Michael Atherton as to what goes into those 'Secret Roast Dinners which give him the edge unlike those other mugs who tuck
into tea!
The O's finished the innings on 146 which saw extras top score with 25 summing up the batting performance if truth be told.
With the O's fired up, the East London boys started well with both Dan and Oliver bowling excellent spells keeping things
tight. Giraffe picked up two quick wickets to celebrate a successful week having just passed his 11 plus!
Theydon continued to score slowly and with the O's keeping it tight, Richardson managed to sneak in an extra over bowling
an extended spell of 9-3-20-2……...it looked as though it would go to the wire.
Mulholland then came on at the tree end and went for 21 off 2 overs seeing Theydon creep closer to the target. #TFC - Thanks
for coming Li!)
Revell and Riches also tried their luck with the ball and managed to each pick up a wicket, however it wasn't to be the O's
day and when a 'real stinger' of a catch was dropped by skipper Heed the die was cast.
'It was great effort' said slip……..'Phew I wouldn't have fancied that one' said square leg……..'Talk about suicide' said
gully as Heed called upon St John Ambulance to stop the bleeding as he had temporarily went off the field for the 18th time
this season.
Theydon crawled over the line with 4 wickets to spare having seen skipper Hyde carry his bat for a mediocre 59.
Following a 4th defeat on the trot, Mulholland was seen leaving the ground with a bottle of scotch in one hand and a shot-gun
in the other…………...…………….
