Match Report Date - 17/05/09 Oppo – Alexandra Park CC (a) Type – 40 Overs Report by Liam Mulholland. On one of the coldest days the club has played for many years the O"s acclimatised to the conditions far better than the hosts and raced to victory to double quick time. Bob James is convinced it was colder playing for Gravesend in a late conference fixture against a Captain Scott Invitation Eleven in the Antarctic Circle,Bob was 48 not out when the game was cut short due to frostbite and snow blindness, Scott`s boys claimed the victory via a very early Duckworth/Lewis calculation. AP won the toss and after hearing the skipper was late arriving with crash boy Tooth he took a guess we were some disorganised shite so he decided to send us out to field. The acting skipper Parkes arrived soon after shaking his head as sat-nav Tooth lost his bearings a tad and after a quick spin round the Lake District he eventually found Ali Pally. A furious skipper after finding he was having to now field in the ever increasing wintery weather gave a quick pep talk and for once the fielders backed up his plea for "catch every chance we get and the quicker we can get back in the warm". 26 overs later back in the warm we certainly were enjoying mug after mug of piping hot tea, every chance scooped up by eager fielders the tone set by the returning Humphrey who fielded without a jumper and at one stage his hands turned a nasty colour of Man City blue, possibly a monster day on the lash celebrating yet another Championship success for his beloved Man U may have been the decided factor on his lack of jumper selection. Skipper Parkes topped the bowling figures with a 4-11 return, all the bowlers bowled well considering most them were still wearing at least 3 jumpers. In reply the O`s had a slight wobble losing James and Cooper who was probably still hampered by the blow on his ankle on the first day of the season which has turned his ankle into the size similar to the Canary Wharf tower but some lusty blows from Humphrey sped the O`s to victory.
