Match Report Date - 16/08/09 Oppo – Theydon Bois (a) Type – 40 Overs Report by Liam Mulholland. O`s lost a thrilling game at Theydon Bois going down by the narrow margin of 1 wicket with 8 balls left in the match. O`s batted first on a perfect day for batting, after losing Evans early for 3 Tooth and James were going along nicely when James looking more like his old self missed a full toss which produced a whimper of an appeal from the bowler after a Steve Bucknor delay the dreaded finger was raised by Umpire Ramanuja the distraught James cried "Ravi it`s outside the line" but there was no going back on the decision and another James innings cut short, the rest of the O`s players feared the worst and moved to all parts of Theydon to avoid James as he trudged off looking a very sorry sight. Mulholland joined Tooth and they quickly added 60 in 13 overs before Tooth chipped up a catch to go for a sparkling 54 when he looked certain for a ton. Kumar joined Mulholland and was quickly away with a flurry of boundaries the pair adding an unbeaten 111 to take the score to 206-3, Mulholland finishing with 71 not out and Kumar unbeaten on 42 a good score but skipper Parkes had his eyes on a 220 score. Theydon were quickly away adding 51 for the first wicket in only 9 overs before Wicks buoyed by the release of his old pal Ronnie Biggs bowled Skipper Bergh for a quick fire 25. With Theydon ahead of the run rate O`s needed wickets to get back in the match and they responded well reducing Theydon to 91-3 with the dismissal of the dangerous Marnoch by Ramanuja a possible turning point in the match but Theydon had the match winner at the the other end in Will Stoner who played a fine innings holding the run chase together, skipper Parkes held his self back and the plan worked perfectly as he took 5-28 in his spell. With Theydon 165-8 the game looked like it was going the O`s way but great support from the young Revell and McKelvey helped Stoner edge ever nearer the target it was only fitting that Stoner hit the winning runs to finish unbeaten for a fine 80. The drop by James early in Stoner`s innings proved crucial plus the 28 extras conceded which was 2nd top score for Theydon. James finished his day off furiously texting the ICC,ECB, MCC,Wisden,Auto Trader in fact anyone who could try and get Ramanuja banned from wearing a white coat ever again.
