Match Report Date 15/06/14 Oppo Clapham In (h) Type 40 Overs Report by Frank Furter Following the excellent win at Thorley, the O's faced the tough task of Clapham In. This week would be much tougher task with the O's losing their 'League Elect' stars, however the home grown boys did not let them down! With the oppo fielding a team mostly made up of Saffers, the O's knew they were in for a tough game, however a monumental effort by the O's bowlers restricted the oppo to 136 All out. Wicks playing in his preferred 'summer light' conditions set the tone for the afternoon with an absolute jaffer to remove the opener. From there on, the O's kept the pressure up with some excellent bowling & fielding (only two dropped catches I think?). To be fair the high standard of cricket was no shock as the O's did have former player/self appointed coach Michael Holding geeing them up from the boundary. Kindly offering to be Tina's official 'taster', he continued to help himself to the food whilst continued to yell 'Top work man! As he shovelled down another mouthful of nuts (which apparently he cannot eat due to his nut allergy!) Kumar picked up a couple of wickets (2-31) as did Revell (2-21) but it was 'XXL' Matty Hiscock who grabbed 3-18 having returned from Antigua a couple of stone heavier to wrap things up (Cheers for that nice compliment boys!) As with every O's game there was a moment of madness as Heed also threw the ball to Liam Mulholland (That's not the mad part!) who 'allegedly' has been seen in Buckhurst Hill crawling along ditches by the side of the road late of night. The 'local drunk' as described by the Ilford Recorder ran into bowl letting out a massive groan and pitching the ball about 4 feet outside off .It's my shoulder boys he said. Allegedly Humphreys turned to the batsman and apologised claiming it was an old injury picked up WW2 when Mulholland was representing Monty's battalion XI. Both sides tucked into what was left of Tina's magnificent tea with the O's 'coach' having the audacity to continue munching away before the players had even finished! Mulholland and Kumar opened against a very lively attack and were soon sent packing as Kumar picked up his second duck of the weekend and Mulholland (4) played the ball onto his stumps. Fortunately Benjamin (37) and Joseph (21) put a good partnership as the O's edged closer to the modest target. There was a few nervous moments as the O's lost quick wickets but contributions by Simon (14) and Matty (11) & Marvel (22 NO) seeing off the lively openers (who tried the intimidation tactics of 2 beamers - Typical SA's!) was not enough to prevent victory for the O's Apparently Michael Holding will be holding coaching sessions on Wed nights for anyone who would like to attend. In keeping with tradition no money will exchange hands & he will be happy to share your dinner too - No charge!
