Report vs Brentwood Victorians CC

Match Report
Date 14 July 2013

Following defeat to the Chairman's XI a week earlier, the O's faced Brentwood Victorians in a blistering hot day over Barkingside.

The oppo (who had cried off a year earlier) did not get the afternoon off to the best of starts following their late arrival with
some explanation about someone sitting on the TV remote which meant they couldn't turn off the pretty boring Ashes test that was taking place.

Justice was done though…………..Skipper Heed won the double headed coin toss and showed no mercy in the late arrivals, inflicting them
to an afternoon in the dirt with temperatures reminiscent of equatorial Africa!

Slo-mo and Eddie got off to a cracking start smashing the ball to all parts until Slomo was caught on 27 following a decent catch at square
leg. Tooth who was looking good for his century shortly followed as he was 'questionably' given out LBW on 69.

Poor Eddie, bemused by the fact he was on the next strip when the ball tickled the pad, took the long walk back to the pavilion having been
a trigger victim of the fastest gun in the west!

With both the openers gone, Matty and young Rumbold were at the crease with Jack continuing to tease the oppo with fantastic little chippers
which just fall short of the fielders hands time and time again (fantastic entertainment).

Both continued the runs until Rumbold (11) was LBW bringing Captain Heed to the crease, fresh from his facial at Spitalfields a few weeks
earlier and with all war wounds now healed, The O's skipper sadly lasted 3 balls before retiring hurt after being struck down by the infamous
Barkingside sniper who had also nailed Mulholland a few weeks earlier (Second gun shot of the day!)

Jack Baker-Merry came in and played a decent innings hanging around at the other end whilst Hiscock kept the scoreboard ticking with the pick
of the shots being the classy leg bye which brought up his first 50 for the club.

With a decent score on the board, the O's lost wickets in the final overs trying to push the total to 250 as Hiscock (50), Baker-Merry (10),
Wicks (6) and Auton (4) were all out caught as the O's finished on 236 for 7

As usual a smashing Beryl tea consisting of sausage rolls. 100% organic chicken and a magic Victoria Sponge, the O's took to the cooling East
London desert in confident mood but were soon pondering a possible defeat as the oppo got off to a flying start.

Anuj (1-23) and Neal had a tough start with the ball as boundary upon boundary were smashed into the local houses and before long the Victiorians
had quickly added 50 to the board when the first wicket fell as young Thiru bowled opener Ali with an excellent delivery.

Vice skipper Marsh threw the ball to Auton and Wicks who both bowled excellent spells getting the O's back into the game with Wicks in particular
taking 3-17 and Auton's (1-30) left arm variety causing lots of problems to the visitors.

Tooth amazingly chipped in with 4 catches claiming two of them off the fastest finger in the West who also bowled a decent spell picking up 2-22.

Credit to Neal Patel who showed bottle after his earlier annihilation to came back to bowl and much improved spell as the O's finally wrapped up
the game following a catch by Jack Rumbold who refused to let Eddie make history and become the first fielder to claim 5 catches in a match
(Wisden are checking as we speak!)

Following an England and O's win, all returned to the saloon bar commanded by Sherriff Mulholland for a drop of the finest whisky on offer.
Guns were firing and pulses raised when '2 ladies from outta town' popped in for a packet of Roast Chicken crisps.
I told you it was only a matter of time said the sherriff………………Yee ha!
