At last the sun the shone and the rain stayed away for the day as the O`s and H&C fought out yet another last over
thriller. Skipper Heed had to shuffle his team after being forced to leave Hillier out after hearing from the
groundsman that a very soft wicket was going to be the order of the day. The Chilean miners rescue team are still
trying to free a ball that plugged from his delivery at Barkingside the previous weekend with the rescue team working
non stop through the week, there is no sign of the ball getting to the surface. With the costs of the rescue team
mounting we need a good firm pitch before we can think about selecting him again. Barry Hearn has kindly offered a 1%
discount on a 2012/13 O`s season ticket for the trapped ball, providing the ball collects the ticket at the ticket
office any time between 3.09am & 3.15am any Sunday morning showing proof of ID and 3 months utilities bills.
O`s lost the toss and were put in quickly losing James who had not seen ground this soft since he fought on the Somme.
L.Mulholland joined debutant Harry Auton and they eased the score to 29 before Harry popped one up to depart for a
hard working 12. Enter Junaid Iqbal who arrived in the country on friday and got caught in the huge passport delays
at Heathrow this has been caused by Arnie and his team of talented spotters who are relentlessly unearthing new talent
for the club from every possible avenue. Iqbal passed the test and now finds himself playing his first ever game in
England, amazingly a 93 run stand then followed with Iqbal showing a nice range of shots before departing for a score
of 44 which on another day would have been at least 90. Mulholland kept the score ticking over finishing unbeaten on
68 and with a few lusty blows from the LATE arriving Williams the O`s finished on 162-5 from 50 overs. In reply the
Auton brothers opened the bowling with Dan having a cunning plan to beat the slow pitch by bowling 10 beamers at the
batsman's throat when he did find his line he cleaned up the openers to leave H&C on 26-2. Hussain & Malik then took
the game away from the O`s moving the score quickly on to 130-2, 33 needed 8 wickets in hand game over we thought
but skipper Heed brought our man from Heathrow on who now turned the ball square to claim a 4-27 haul Hussain going
for a very classy 60 meanwhile Kumar collected 3-13 at the other end including a masterstroke from the veteran James
who with Skipper Heed devised an off side field to force a catch for the 9th wicket James said it reminded him of a
legside plan he plotted with some punter called Jardine in the early 1930`s. 146-9 the game was now for the O`s to grab
but Skipper Whitehead & Amin batted carefully taking it down to the last over with 9 needed for victory Heed set an
attacking field with every man around the bat for the winning wicket minus the Auton brothers who crowded the boundary
edge ready to go for their Sunday dinner and James who saw a nice looking bottle of Old Shepherds Todger calling him
from the bar and Steve Rumbold who was busting for a slash. Just 4 came off the over and not a chance offered so a
drawn match the call as the game went to the last over for the 3rd year running. Back to Barkingside next as the O`s
take on Woodford Green..
