Type – 40 Overs
Report by Ed Tooth.

The O's second trip to the Bell Common ground this year saw them power to victory with exceptional performances from
Rob Jones and Steve Hillier. The day started ominously with Tooth speeding past the entrance to the ground at 80mph
leading to raised eyebrows and some choice words from passenger Mulholland. However, following arrival, Orient settled
and were put into bat on a very damp and green wicket after the overnight rain.
Foresters started well and with the scalps of Mulholland and James had the O's 20-2. The supporters shaky start
continued with only number 3 Rob Jones striking the ball confidently. A couple more wickets fell, but with support
from Cooper and Parkes, Jones smashed his way into the all time Orient record books with a blistering 129 - the 6th
highest score for the club in it's 25 year history. Unfortunately the other batsmen couldn't replicate Jones form
- Cooper stumped after failing get back in the crease in time after sparking a Benson, and Revell shouldering arms to
a straight one that went straight on in tribute to role model Kevin Pietersen.
With some late scrambled runs from Redmond and Hillier the O's finished up with a respectable 212 from their 40 overs.
Another excellent tea followed from the hosts and after hearing reports of regular sightings of rabbits at the foresters
ground Ritzy marked out his run up from top end - but alas it wasn't "Happy Days" for the Fonz as he failed to take a
wicket in the increasing gloom with the dark ball. Tooth fared no better and both were soon replaced with Parkes and
spin sensation Ravi Ramanuja. Both started well but Parkes couldn't control the ball with the swinging conditions and
his inaccuracy led to several wides and some extraordinary leg side takes from keeper Redmond - "leg" being the operative
word, the only keeper in history who wears the gloves on his feet and catches the ball between his toes!
Parkes wayward bowling led to a short delay after consecutive wides saw the umpire, arms flapping furiously, take off
and fly into the forest.
After a steady start, at 80 -2 after 20 overs, Foresters were well set to push on with some big hitters still to come.
However they were not prepared for Steve "Green Top" Hillier - who came on 17th change and with a deceptive change of
pace ranging from "slow", "very slow" to "f*cking slow" bamboozled the Foresters middle order and tore through them with
a career best of 6-28. As the run rate continued a win for O's looked increasingly likely and Ravi cleaned up the
tail with two quick wickets.
Another win for Orient sees them 8 out of 11 and the team walked off victorious for a big booze session in the Foresters
clubhouse . The day ended with Steve Hillier picking up his phone to discover 4 missed calls and a voicemail from
Geoff Miller looking for availability for the Lords test and a slow bowler who can take wickets.
Move over Graham Swann.
