Report vs Epping Foresters

Match Report
Date 11/07/10
Oppo – Epping Foresters (a)
Type – 40 Overs
Report by Liam Mulholland.

For the 2nd week running another last ball thriller for the O`s but this week they were the victors, also for the 3rd week
running the O`s were in the field in boiling conditions in this Home match that was switched to Epping Foresters. On a perfect
batting track Quant was quickly away with a boundary and immediately a big score was on the cards. In fact the scoring was
kept at a reasonable level with only 17 coming off the first 6 overs. Skipper Richardson then gambled with the introduction
of POTY Hillier who on his last visit here in May cracked under pressure and is still on weekly therapy as an outcome but
wait a moment our man with the golden arm started with a maiden could he finally end the nightmare of that dreadful spell in
May. Meanwhile Casey Jones Ramanuja was bowling a tight spell despite conceding his 150th six off his own bowling this season.
Hillier struck with the score on 60 dismissing opener French to a good catch by angry glove man Riches incredibly he struck
next ball removing Day who on changing his mind for the 28th time edged a gentle and I mean gentle catch to L.Mulholland who
claimed his 1st slip catch for 15 years.Could our man involved in the biggest voting conspiracy for many years claim a
hatrick,Richardson attacked moving 7 fielders 5 steps in from the boundary Hillier delivered his best dobber but Bazzoni
calmly pushed it away.Unfortunately Quant launched into Hiscock`s first 2 overs which went for 31 just short of the club
record of 35.Bazzoni went to another good catch by Kumar who after intensive sessions on his catching is looking very safe
indeed, this wicket for Hillier brought up his 100th for the club but just a tad expensive costing over 15,000 runs in the
process.Hillier finishing with very tidy return of 3-35 but a little fortunate in that he only bowled 4 balls to Quant who
smashed them all for 4.Quant continued to pound away at the attack adding 110 in 16 overs with Needham before he was bowled
for a career best 144. Skipper Ward strode to the wicket minus gloves and pads to puzzled expressions of the fielders,Wardy
son there is no future in going 72 hours with no kip your mind will turn to mush, next time pop the proper equipment on dear
boy you know it makes sense.Shock horror the man with sleep deprivation was quickly run out in comical fashion,Wardy for the
last time after me `head, pillow, sleep, head pillow, sleep` you can do it son.Needham completing a maiden 50 for the Foresters
as they closed on 239-6 a good score but at one stage they looked on for 275,due to umpire miscount the last over was a 5
baller which could prove crucial. On a good track and a reasonable batting line up the O`s were confident of a good chase and
fortified by 6 bowls of trifle 78 year old James was quickly away with a flurry of boundaries losing Kumar with the score on
29 and then departing himself for 24 with the score on 35 in the 10th over.Tooth and Mulholland then put on 135 in 20 overs
to set up an exciting finish Tooth having a stroke luck on 30 when he was caught on the boundary but Halls back foot just
slipped over the line.Mulholland departed for 41 with the score on 170 in the 30th over still a lot to do but with Tooth in
good touch again victory was still possible, after yet another classy 100 Tooth went for 114 with the score on 215 in the
37th over could this be the end of the O`s.2 overs left 21 needed it looked like the O`s were going to fall short again but
step forward `Hercules` Heed as he launched a massive six all the way to Theydon tearing his groin, thigh and bicep in the
process ,Ramanuja helping with a beautiful open faced glance through third man to set up the last over with 6 required,
finally 1 to win off the last ball which was scrambled home via a Ramanuja pull to leg.Victory by 6 wickets at 8.00pm the
late finish due to some appalling ball finding by both teams that found us using 48 replacement balls.Once again many thanks
to the Foresters for moving the game at short notice and supplying us with another wonderful tea.The O`s thought they were
near to solving the Hillier voting scandal when the club managed to fly in `Paul the Octopus` at great expense to find these
mystery voters, sadly Ravi picked him up from the airport and then promptly eat him whilst watching `Blackadders most cunning
moments` on DVD.
