As a cricket and Leyton Orient supporter, I thought I would spend some time in England watching the mighty O's and catch a game of cricket, and the LOSCC fixture
fitted with my location. It was a pleasure to mingle with such a lovely, friendly bunch of lads who shared many stories past and present filled with wit and
joviality.

I understand the club president is still injured with a bruise that covers his torso (people pay alot of money for a multi coloured tattoo that size) pulled out at
the last minute leaving young Ollie 'Bucket Hands' Buck to step in at short notice, so short that he missed the 11:45 Newbury Park pick up and decided to run 15
miles in readiness for his October Dublin marathon. Hearing this Dano confidently told his team mates that Ollie would take his first career catch, ear's pricked
and eye's wide Hudder's straight in requested a little wager (undisclosed amount). More of this later!

The skippers agreed that the O's should bat first, with club legend Eddie Tooth and Sir Jack opening the innings. Tight bowling kept the O's at bay making a
difficult 37 in 10 overs. The first wicket of Sir Jack went for a brilliant catch (J.Adams). Out for the second outstanding catch in 2 games (so I heard), 78-1.
Alex Baker-Merry was next to go as Eddie passed his 50 and looked comfortable before being given out LBW on 69, a fine innings indeed. Paul Elby and Hudder's made
a 16 run partnership before a major collapse. The Walthamstow Wall cracking on with three 4's before being run out at full 2.5mph sprinting pace. The skipper and
Big John fell for duck's leaving Vikas 'The Viper' Sharma and Dano 'Bald Eagle' Whittam the 'O's real last hope. 144 on the board, can they reach 150? A quick chat
in the middle and then 'The Viper' struck, multiple 4's and 2's forced by 'The Bald Eagle,' took the O's to 169, a quick 25 run partnership.

Onto the tea where Abridge Pasties, sandwiches, fruit and crisps were casually consumed by the relaxed O's players. Young Buck still exhausted and malnourished
after his 15 mile slog was tucking into his cheese and onion crisps when 'The Wall' politely asked for a couple of crisps, "Of Course", swiping in like a Perigrine
Falcon the crisps were never seen again.

Theydon started well (very well infact), making a quick 50. Opener Adam's in his 20's slogged one to 'Bucket Hands' Buck, the players watched in anticipation 'Is
he - isn't he?' Well the bucket must have a hole in it, an unfortunate drop with young Buck immediately apologising to his team mates and Dano who was confident
that he would take it, but unfortunately not to be, it will come. Head up son!

The first wicket fell on 96 shortly after Marsden's 52 not out retirement, a stumping rarely seen in professional cricket. A tempting low ball from Big John caught
Spall out of his crease, Dano quickly closing his pads, the ball hitting the base of the pads and onto the middle stump, OUTSTANDING! Big John struck again with a
catch from Eddie (a great all-round comeback game) and then a straight ball bowling out the young T.Burchett.

It was a struggle for the bowlers and the umpire who did not want to impersonate a Spitfire fighter plane throughout the game, keeping both arms down, definitely
trying to make a game from the bat.

Munir and Hyde finished the game, The O's losing by 7 wickets.

The skipper clearly not happy but tried to boost the morale of his troops, hot weather, young guns, inconsistency, on the day not good enough, not from the lack of
trying. Onwards and Upwards O's.

It would have been nice to meet The President as I'm told he has a story or 2 to share, thanks for the entertainment and to see great sportsmanship.

Next game at Easton's, good luck and wish I could have been there.
