Report vs Capricorn

Match Report
Date 10/08/14
Oppo – Capricorn (h)
Type – 35 Overs
Report by Don Rumbold

Many were stunned as they turned on their TV Sunday morning to see a flashing yellow line at the bottom of Sky Sports
Breaking News with the Headlines……..WICKS LATE DROP OUT FOR O’s SUFFERING WITH TUMMY ACHE. Could this be true?
Local reporters suggested otherwise as they circled outside the Wicks mansion in Buckhurst Hill. With East End heavies
armed with shotguns outside the electrified gates of the Wicks home, reporters were told ‘Big Al has been called to a
meeting of families’ – An insider reports that upon hearing news of the Rumbold family causing aggro on the South Coast
(Wicks territory), Al was fuming and made himself unavailable until ‘business’ is ‘sorted’
Anyway with or without ‘Cry boy Wicks’ as he is now affectionately known………….onto the game -Capricorn at home - Not
the first fixture that many would choose after a 4 day rampage in Bournemouth, however that was the task that faced
the O’s on Sunday afternoon at Barkingside Recreation Ground. With the game in doubt, biblical storms ttook place
between 09:00 and 11:00 but were no match for the home ground of the Catholics. Once the floating cars and Noah’s Ark
had passed through the gates of the ground, it was reasonably dry by the time Capricorn took to the field for this
reduced 35 over match.
Matty and Sulosan opened the innings and started well in the difficult slow conditions. With 50 on the board, Matty
(23) was caught at mid-off bringing Liam to the crease. Sulosan and Liam continued to play some nice shots although
Capricorn made life difficult with some accurate bowling and the standard spin attack turning it both ways.
The O’s were going along nicely until a min-collapse which 4 wickets fall in the space of two overs, Firstly Mulholland
(33) was clean bowled and then Sulosan (60) was caught on the boundary, this was followed by a second ball duck for
Jay Williams (Second of the weekend ) and then Praveen was caught for one the very next over.
Nav Ali who had gone to get an ice lolly over by the swings was then seen sprinting back to get his pads on………..to be
fair Nav looked in pretty good nick (despite not bothering with a box – Never a good idea son!) as he smashed a six in
the final over to bring the O’s total up to 160-5 off their 35 overs.
A class tea by Beryl Mulholland was well disposed of (Loving those bits of chicken by the way!) and the O’s took the
field with the wind blowing in all directions.
With the O’s expecting a tough spell in the field with the plenty of ball chasing, it was anything but as some
excellent bowling accompanied by some uncharacteristic batting by Capricorn meant the O’s were on course for a
comfortable win.
Having bowled 27 overs at young Olly Marsh as a warm up, Dan Auton was back in the wickets with figures of (3-27) and
managed to remove the dangerman Bhatvik with an unplayable ball. Chinners (2-21) bowled another tidy spell and the
rest of the Capricorn line-up decided to just give catching practice to the O’s or walk half way down the wicket like
zombies before the ball had left the bowlers arm! Notable mentions for Kollugari with figures of (3-60) and Navman
(2-0) (Yes two wickets for no runs!) wrapped up the game in a swiftly manner as Capricorn were bowled out for a
measily 57 runs resulting in a huge win for the O’s!

Bring on Theydon!
