Another eventful Sunday afternoon for LOSCC ended in a rain affected draw with the match evenly poised.
Against a formidable Capricorn batting line up the O’s were in a great position in having eight (yes eight) bowlers to
choose from. This created a tricky exercise for the skipper in balancing the attack and to make sure he was in pole
position to be leading wicket taker come the end of the season.

After Capricorn started brightly the first wicket was taken when Ritzy took a catch that went so high there was not only
snow on the ball but also fag ash from one of Coop’s cigarettes. This proved to be the start of an excellent catching
performance from the team ranging from Rhys Martin’s juggling effort at deep square leg to Eddie Tooth’s superb low catch
at long on.
Wicksy’s new all-rounder status in the team this year has meant the wickets have not been so regular so he was pleased
as punch when he picked up a wicket plumb lbw. He was rewarded by being immediately taken off.
There were mutterings from the popular East Ender along the lines of someone sleeping with the fishes but these could not
be confirmed.
Ritzy started off his spell by conceding a six but ended up with three wickets and on this occasion it was admitted that
some of the shots played against him were agricultural. All the bowlers chipped in with valuable efforts.
There was continued improvement with James Walker’s bowling, and the in swinging delivery from Rhys to bowl the left
hander was a peach. Wickets continued to fall fairly regularly and the score was kept in check until some lusty blows
in the last 10 overs brought the score up to 239.

In reply, Liam and Eddie started positively and had scored 28 from the first 4 overs when the monsoon that had hit
Beijing 8 hours earlier arrived at South Woodford. Once that had passed there was some debate about whether the match
could continue. The grounds man was summoned to pass verdict and the pitch was deemed unplayable.
So the team retreated to the bar to make the most of the extra drinking time and listen to Liam’s story of a previous
race to the wicket taker of the season which ended in controversy at Old Parks.
Will history repeat itself? ……
