For the first time in an age the LOSCC stalwarts were able to take the field without
wearing every piece of clothing in their cricket wardrobe. Winning the toss and electing
to bat first skipper Heed opted to send out his Two Bob opening pair. The decision proved
to be inspired with the grizzled James looking in the kind of form not been seen since
the days he’d played the senior role to a 7 year old John Small and the resolute Marsh
demonstrating an uncanny ability to pick generous Thorley fielders. With Marsh departing
after an opening partnership of 110 the sprightly Hiscock came in to add a well constructed
27 before the tiring James – now a centurion in both years and runs - fell LBW to Sydes
for an entertaining 102 and the O’s retired to the pavilion having posted 196 for 2 .

Returning to the field after an excellent tea with his bowlers weighed down by expectation
and chocolate cake and having been regaled by a run-by-run replay of Bob James innings
skipper Heed opened with a Two Auton attack in an effort to duplicate his earlier success.
Thunderous swearing and screaming ensued as Thorley got off to the sort of start that suggested
a swift canter to the finish line, an early night for all and the need for some anger management
classes. Spotting the danger Heed, and having demonstrated his ability to emulate a draught
excluder in the field, chose to slam the door on the gathering run chase and, turning to the
man largely held together with rubber, bandages and an indomitable bulldog spirit, let loose
Al Wicks for his first bowl of the season. In a hostile spell reminiscent of his 2011 Thorley
triumph, and repositioning his sex shop acquired neoprene thigh gatherers after every ball,
Wicks calmed the nerves and brought order to chaos. With Wicks withdrawn to let his fetlocks
cool down Thorley breathed again and looked to play out the remaining time but, with one over
left and one wicket to fall, Wicks was thrown the ball again and with stumps cart-wheeling
round the ground after an in-ducking straight-un the Os took a well deserved win by 23 runs.
