Match Report Date - 09/08/09 Oppo – Capricorn (h) Type – 40 Overs Report by Liam Mulholland. The O's once again took their yearly thumping from one of the strongest sides on the Sunday circuit. On a day full of record breaking and nostalgia the O's took on their oldest opponents in Capricorn and the signs did not look good when the visitors won the toss on a perfect day for batting. From ball one the O's were under the pump with both openers wasting no time in attacking Tooth & Parkes bowling, the veteran Sunil Rayal playing one offside punched four which Dravid, Gavaskar, Tendulkar, Sehag, VVS Laxman would have been proud to play. With Rayal dropping anchor Shahid set about the bowling blasting 93, the O's finding out to their cost if you don`t catch good players they will make you pay. Skipper Richardson becoming the first man in the club to reach 400 appearances celebrated in fine style with a well earned return of 4-39 at a time when the hitting was at it`s fiercest, the O's were quite happy to keep the score to 236 but if Ramauja had bowled his full 8 overs the score good have been trimmed by 15. In reply the O's were in trouble as James continued his run of low scores losing his middle peg for 0. Enter the Terminator Jones after drinking and eating Bournemouth dry on the clubs tour, unfortunately big `T` soon departed for 6 and the whole of South Woodford feared the town may be burnt to the ground in a few minutes but luckily `T` was only on the lookout for a nice cool cider from the bar. Mulholland & Tousent added 71 for the 3rd wicket before Mulholland was sent packing by a shooter for a hard fought 43, Tousent completed a stylish 50 but due to scorer Edwards having a senior moment no one realised until he was out. The clouds had now rolled over making it very hard for the batters, skipper Devang helping as much as he can bringing on all his slow bowlers, Tooth and Parkes added 40 in quick time to give O's a glimmer of victory but when Parkes went the game was up. In the week that Harmison reached a record 20th duck for England skipper Richardson topped that with his long awaited 50th duck for the club bowled in the gloom by Waleed. The Terminator not helping the run chase by calling a 4 ball over in his umpiring spell after necking 17 ciders, 4 hot dogs, 3 burgers and one tea lady. The game reached a climax when Sunil Rayal who after 30 years at the club was given his final bowl in his last match as he is soon to depart to Dubai to start up the Dubai Premier Cricket League he must right his own scripts as he had Tooth caught on the boundary for a fighting 43 to finish the match with one for 9 to go with his 50. Hours later Rayal and Mulholland bored the rest of the players to tears of battles of the last 23 years, Rayal helping things along with a bottle of 20% liquor which made a fitting end to the evening, everyone at the club wish Sunil and his wife our best wishes for their new adventure and look forward to bringing Terminator and the boys over to Dubai on our next cricket tour!
