LOSCC were on the road this week, making the trip up the M11 to Thorley. Very simply journey but for those that struggled,
please ensure in future you read our informative website that gives simple directions (You can't miss it!)
Captain Heed won the toss in this timed match and elected to bat with Tooth and Marsh opening the batting for the visitors.
Both found life tricky early on against some strong accurate bowling from Halls and in particular Glasgow who managed 5
straight maidens before finally conceding a run on his 6th over. After Marsh (2) played one onto his stumps from Halls,
Mulholland entered the crease to see off the openers and was richly rewarded for his efforts when the sight of some 'proper
buffet' bowling came on. Ironically a chap who looked like he had eaten most of the buffet was the main culprit but his
colleagues proved there was plenty to go around. Some of the pie-chuckers made Steve Hillier pace look like Malcolm Marshall.
Mulholland wasted no time & filled his boots and was well supported by Riches (44) at the other end who kept the scoreboard
ticking over nicely. Skipper Heed (7) who had earlier chipped one and Tooth caught on (19) were nearly in tears watching
from the boundary as another one was lobbed up and despatched for another four! It was only a matter of time and Mulholland
went on to make his 28th ton for the club ('Still life in the old dog yet!' he was heard to say as he raised his bat to all
sides of the ground) as the O's finished on 202-4.
The O's began the attack with Auton & 'Brylcreem' Morgan who both picked up wickets early in their spells. Morgan (1-34)
managed to get the opener to play on to his stumps and Auton (1-14) bowled an absolute jaffer which put Thorley in a bit of
trouble. The locals decided to stay indoors not due to the poor weather but after what appeared to be 'two unsavoury looking
gentleman doing drug deals round the back of the garages! The drugs barons continued to walk around the outfield making life
particularly unpleasant for all involved. The larger gentleman was allegedly heard to be saying to his dealer 'I can't get
the gear on Thursdays anymore…... I have to go to White Hart Lane!' Heed then turned to Revell (3-58) and Patel (2-25) who
equally bowled impressive spells both doing a bit with the ball and continued the pressure on the home side picking up
wickets. Thorley then upped the ante with a chap called Carter (31) who managed to hit anything 10 meters outside off stump
for a four behind square leg! Virtually impossible to set a field to, he was supported by home skipper Sydes who decided
boundaries was the way to go and before too long Thorley was closing in on the win. Mulholland felt there was a possible
run out as well although this was widely disputed due to the poor throw. These young lads can't be expected to get down or
move Li! In times of trouble there is only one man for the job………'The Peoples Champion!'
Wicks came on at the pavilion end and began his spell in the usual fashion storming in and giving his all. Fired up upon
rumours that he is expected to be called up for his home team Hubba Bubba Cricket Club in Pakistan, Wicks soon bowled
Carter smashing the top of the stumps and looking as though he was going to replicate what he had achieved in the previous
2 years to be the match winner……..Frustratingly Sydes (Not Out 74) kept managing the one boundary an over though and the run
chase was slipping away from the O's who were earlier in control. There was a huge opportunity missed though off a Wicks
delivery…..Had Morgan 'showed a bit of bottle' and jumped through the stinging nettles, climbed up the tree, ran across the
road and dived in the fields behind the ground to take the catch ………..it could have all been different……….…..It was
certainly a chance without a doubt. Wicks (1-45) was inconsolable after the game that his big opportunity of a tour to his
beloved Pakistan may of gone, however he was soon cheered up when reminded that his tour roommate 'Chinners' was ready to
see him through the dark times with a heavy session on the beers & pork scratchings!

Once again the O's had been beaten after getting themselves in a good position.

Oh well………..Back at the rec next week to entertain Clapham Inn and get stuck into some more hot-dogs……Bring it on!
