Match Report Date - 09/05/10 Oppo – Hainault & Clayhall (a) Type – Timed Game Report by Liam Mulholland. On a very dismal and chilly afternoon Hainault & Clayhall and the O`s warmed the hearts of old fashioned `time game` enthusiasts with an exciting drawn game. H&C were put in to bat on what proved to be a tricky pitch for batting, the sight of `the voice` Hillier opening the bowling promptly made the speed gun redundant for the afternoon. Bowling into the wind, his first delivery was reminiscent of a scene from `The Matrix` as the ball just stopped and floated in the middle of the wicket. After what seemed an eternity it eventually reached the batsman plopping onto his pads for a certain LBW but the appeal was turned down by the umpire on the grounds the ball would not have reached the stumps.`The voice` would not be denied for long and still basking in success as Player Of The Year(how the hell did that happen)he quickly ripped out the top order with a devastating spell of right arm frisbees taking 4-22, scoring proved very difficult with the outfield doing a fair impression of a rain forest one shot slowed up the long grass and Hiscock fired in a return to claim a run out scalp. The cricket world has waited with baited breath the debut of Frank Shewry after his explosive efforts at nets where he has wrecked any object in his path the human threshing machine did not disappoint, with his first delivery he thundered in from another post code and promptly fired the delivery straight to gully, after trimming his run up down by 75 yards he bowled a tidy little 7 over spell and in the field he produced a spectacular stunt man style dive and slide across the square stopping a cover drive with his right buttock unfortunately 3 pitches will now be out of action for a month whilst they relay half the square, I am informed that within 5 mins of the clip being shown on `youtube` Frankie had reached 12,000 hits. 15 year old Jack Rumbold claimed his first wicket and we think the youngest wicket taker for the club after Tousent pouched a fine catch, he would have had 2 but last minute guest Mo Rahman grassed a little dolly. From 62-5 H&C recovered well to reach an interesting 149-9 declared. Hiscock claimed his 1st wicket for the club and his first catch to complete a fine individual effort in the field, angry glove man Riches claimed another 2 victims and fortunately refrained from threatening non walking batsman this week as both victims were promptly on their toes before he could growl at them. The O`s needed a nice solid start but that was quickly shattered as Tousent and the new 2010 Terminator model had their poles sent flying by speedster Ashrafi, Rahman and Tooth steadied the ship before Rahman was dismissed by a wonderful diving catch in the covers. Tooth continued his fine start to the season and his never ending run fest against H&C keeping the score ticking over but he was losing partners at an alarming rate compounded by Ramanuja doing a version of `Forest Gump` as `run Ravi run` charged down the pitch looking for an impossible 3rd run that was never available. Skipper for the day L.Mulholland joined Tooth with the score on a rocky 90-7 with 12 overs to go and gradually victory looked a possibility for the O`s with the run chase being wilted down to 8 of the last 2 overs, Mulholland holing out of the last ball of the penultimate over when 5 were required, with Tooth on strike an O`s win was still the best bet but Tooth tickled a fine glance to leg and was caught by the diving keeper and skipper Naqri for a classy 73, Tooth showed great sportsmanship by walking and took the pressure off the umpire as it looked a very difficult decision to call. Enter last man `the voice` who with his last over experience in that legendry win at Sth Loughton in 2005 kept his bottle and did a passable impression of Graham Onions to block out the the final 5 deliveries for an honorable draw.
