Match Report Date 07/09/14 Oppo – Cheshunt (a) Type – 40 overs Following the bore draw at Woodford Green, The O’s headed Northbound to play Cheshunt on a bright Sunday afternoon. With the successful task of getting all XI players at the ground on time for the earlier start, skipper Marsh tossed up and informed the O’s they were in the dirt. Perhaps not the best decision with a monster BBQ happening outside the social club. Unsurprisingly Ollie Graham offered to field in the deep with the hope he could snatch a few chickens and legs of lamb that were sizzling on the grill! Auton & Wicks opened the bowling and after Marvel dropped a catch off Auton and plenty of playing and missing, Dan managed to get the breakthrough after with a tidy caught and bowled to remove Watkins. Wicks at the other end was left scratching his head as to whether he would take another wicket for the club (Still not in double figures yet Al?) as plenty passed the bat but nothing creating opportunities. Chinmeister was brought on John Viggars making his debut for the O’s but unfortunately Cheshunt looked in good nick and both came in for a bit of tap which included some huge straight sixes. Ollie Graham (plays as a batsman these days apparently!) also had a bowl but the faster Olly ran in, the faster the ball was smashed! Marsh turned to the ‘relatively’ experienced Richardson who confirmed he is only playing these days to hunt down records. Ritzy done what he does best and bowled well picking up a couple of wickets. Al was brought back on and showed there is no way of keeping the big man down, picking up a couple of wickets (big slogs caught in the deep I am told!) Cheshunt finished on 205-9 and the O’s having smelt a delicious BBQ cooking for 2.5 hours were ready for feeding…………but having entered the social area it was clear that Cheshunt’s tea had either been robbed (Dan Auton again Ryan?) or this was simply the most disgraceful effort of a tea ever produced. The O’s were looking at a table which had a plate of sandwiches which looked like they had been sat on, a bowl of pasta (No serving spoon) oh and a melon – Seriously – Bob James local side in Ethiopia where people are starving would have been insulted by the effort that Cheshunt had made. Once the O’s had shared a sandwich, they opened their innings with Graham and Marvel who both hung around for a while before giving away their wickets, Naylor was next in and clubbed a quick 20 before being caught which was the same route of dismissal for Matty who was caught at second slip. Jack Baker Merry entered the crease and got his highest score of the season with a magnificent 16 until being caught. The O’s needed a miracle or an epic storm but it wasn’t to be as the final 5 wickets fell very quickly with the O’s all out for a measly 132.
