Report vs Capricorn

Match Report
Date 07/08/16
Oppo Capricorn (h)
Type 40 Overs
Report by Matthew Hiscock

The post tour visit of Capricorn is always a fixture filled with trepidation……Usually red hot 100 degree
temperatures chasing lost balls from Ex Pakistani U-19 players is the normal format of the day and the O’s
did an incredible job of getting 11 bodies onto the field following 3 games in 3 days…No Humphrey (Gout),
Heed (Hernia) Gordon Graham (Plastic Surgery)
Capricorn remarkably won the toss and elected to melt in the field. The heat was unbearable and it seemed
that batsman couldn’t wait to get back to the cool crisp clubhouse. Sunil snicked one behind first ball of
the innings and despite the valiant efforts of Revell (18) batting on one leg the O’s were in a spot of
bother at 46-4 at 20 overs. Matt Hiscock (19) and Karan Shah (14) both put a nice partnership together to
get the O’s scoreboard working before both being caught. Danny Whittam got his highest score for the club
(34) and Liam Mulholland (39) supported a great partnership to ensure the O’s finished on a respectable 165
all out.
A superb Beryl tea gave the O’s the energy they needed and with temperatures cooling the O’s took to the field.
Gowtam Rajasegaran back from Nottingham Uni opened with some lively pace with Aryan Manchanda at the other end
flighting the ball beautifully. Aryan picked up the first wicket when he bowled a frustrated Vishan for 1 as
Capricorn found it difficult. The O’s were fielding well with real purpose exemplified by a stunning catch from
Revell at slip off the bowling of Ollie Marsh. Marsh once again did the business for the O’s his outstanding
spell of 4-32 giving the O’s a real chance of protecting their total. Mulholland limited on bowlers changed things
up with himself and Hiscock trying their luck with the ball. Unfortunately both got some slap from Bimal (72)
who decided to give catching practice to ‘Arnie’s centre of excellence training camp’ on the next pitch with some
huge sixes (Two sixes off Mulholland in one over – Don’t see that very often!)
Capricorn were 6 down and the priceless wicket of Bimal was finally taken when Gowtam bowled him in the 34th over.
The O’s were still in the game and when Whittam stumped A Patel who went wandering half way down the wicket the
pressure was now really beginning to set in before a clubbed boundary from Faisal saw the visitors home in the
37th over.
O’s unfortunately finish the week with a close 2 wicket defeat but a very good effort by all…………… Ian Morgan
(Just signed a 5 year deal with Evian) hit the boundary of the day & youngsters Gowtam, Ollie & Aryan did
the bizzo with the ball……..
Next up…………Theydon Bois
