Match Report Date 08/08/11 Oppo – Capricorn (H) Type – 40 Overs For the 3rd consecutive Sunday running the O`s played out another last over thriller against their old rivals Capricorn. On another rain effected match reduced to 35 overs after numerous downpours in the O`s innings, Os eventually posting a score of 168 which included a stand of 115 between Marsh(41) and that old stager L.Mulholland who posted a score of 61 and in the process nudging his total of runs for the club beyond the 15,000 mark.Tooth blasted a quick 30 which included a a dropped catch on the boundary that parried over the line for 6 in the final reckoning a very crucial moment.A fair score for the O`s but Capricorn came out blasting and were always up with the rate D.Patel bowling a decent spell of 3-23,Skipper Heed used the peoples champ Wicks shrewdly and the lunatic did not disappoint returning figures of 2-18 from his seven overs,Hillier produced possibly a career best catch diving full length behind the square leg umpire to pull of a ridiculous one handed catch but in the process tearing every muscle in his body and denying us the opportunity to see his trademark dobbers which if I`m honest was fortunate for the O`s as it would have been obliterated to all parts. At 52-6 in the 13th over it looked like the game was up but Skipper Ritesh had other ideas as he took the attack to the O`s with Hiscock coming under for serious hammer.Hiscock was handicapped by the fact he had mislaid his cricket boots and was trying to get through his spell with various footwear of slippers, sandals, flip flops, brogues, wellington boots, high heels, spats, cowboy boots, hush puppies, the watching parents of Matt slowly slinked out of the park as their beloved son was smashed to all parts the final straw for them as he fell over on his deliver stride in his 9 inch stilettos. With 6 overs to go the score was 126-8 with Ritesh still powering his team forward, skipper Heed was now left with Hiscock who by now had found some old boots in the clubhouse and young Sarakan to finish off the bowling.Ritesh blasted his 50 and set the game up for the last over to be bowled by Sarakan with 12 needed and 1 wicket remaining, the 1st ball was laced through the covers for 4 by Ritesh and Capricorn looked likely winners.Good running between the last pair left 2 needed for victory with Ritesh on strike but young Sarakan who has bowled just 3 balls for the Catholic 2nd team this season proved his class and his temperament to toss his leggie up a little slower and tempt Ritesh into a leg side heave which he missed and had his poles knocked over for a brave 77, a 1 run win for the O`s who move onto Theydon Bois next Sunday.
