Match Report Date 07/05/17 Oppo Woodham Mortimer (a) Type 40 Overs Report by Liam Mulholland O’s arrived at Woodham Mortimer on a lovely sunny day, the hosts were put in on a very good looking wicket, the openers quickly got stuck into the Shah brothers with the scoreboard rattling forward immediately. Karen Shah claimed the first wicket with a brilliant caught & bowled to dismiss Smith for 15. It was hard toil for all the bowlers who stuck to the task gamely, Morgan plucked a remarkable catch in the deep of Ollie Marsh & Hillier continued his tidy start to the season with a handy return of 2-54. Hard toil for the O’s but 229-5 was certainly gettable as the line-up was full of batters. In reply Minkey and Zaman put on a rock solid 87 for the first wicket, Minkster 31 trading in boundaries as usual after a tidy tea of 24 sandwiches, 8 rolls of pulled pork rolls, 15 sausage rolls, 17 cup cakes, 6 mugs of tea. Zaman 47 likewise was in boundary mode due to fatigue after returning to the club in the early hours to turn off the sprinkler that had flooded the square by then. An interesting finish was on the cards as Marsh 52 keep the O’s well in touch for victory, Morgan again reaching double figures with a useful 12, heavy hitting from Shah 24 & Costin 32 not out brought the O’s close but good end of innings bowling from skipper Verlander and excellent out fielding meant the hosts defended the total, finishing winners by 10 runs. Another close finish at Woodham with the home team again coming out victors. Nice barbeque to follow the match with the Minkster in overdrive as he demolished 16 burgers, 84 sausage rolls & 2 large cheese cakes, that boy likes his tuck for sure. South Loughton to follow next Sunday as O’s search for a first win of the season.
