Match Report Date 06/08/13 Oppo – Wellow (a) Type – 40 overs Report by Onya Tour After having the Hythe and Dibden game washed off at 3.30pm yesterday the O's touring party launched into a 12 hour bender which was hardly the best preparation for the Wellow game the next day. Incredible all players were accounted for at meet time the main casualty being tour newbie Steve Ward who got locked out of the hotel(answer the door Morgan you plank)and had an extremely uncomfortable nights sleep in his van getting severe cramp in his left leg as he stretched it across the dashboard. For once the Wellow team were not at their strongest but still had the formidable Blakey in the ranks and even worse for our Captain Heed he was skipper for the day, after 5 shots of black Russian vodka at the toss Heed was unsure on whether to go to sleep or throw up he wisely decided to bat first and have a quiet nap. Costin and Marvel opened the innings in great style putting on 158 before Costin was LBW to Blakey for a fine 82. Ward was now moving a bit more freely than a few hours earlier and joined Marvel in the run fest helping Marvel to his first club hundred which was celebrated by downing a pint kindly purchased by the booze loving Blakey. Marvel finishing unbeaten on 119 with Ward not out on 43 at the O's went to tea on a very impressive 265-1. In reply the result was never in doubt as Wellow were bowled out for 157 the highlight being guest Ajay Patel smashing Anujan for a straight drive boundary. Ward capped off a good day with a 4-12 haul and of course you can't keep Marvel out of the frame as he pouched 4 catches appearing in any position on the field and the ball followed. Great start to the tour as the team head off into the night full of good spirits looking forward to Godshill tomorrow.
