Match Report Date - 06/07/08 Oppo – Walthamstow (H) Type – 40 Overs Report by Dave Revell The O's managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory on Sunday against Walthamstow's kindergarten XI. Batting first the W's openers, aged 10 and 2, put on 11 before Walker got his special Kiddie ball, to swing away and take the opening 2 batsman's edge, enabling Riches to hold both catches at the 15th time of asking. This brought Braughen to the wicket and he batted very well for his 79 not out, steering the W's to a total of 178 for 9, with the help of a couple of wides that were "not wide in a thousand million years", according to Steve Hillier. Skipper Richardson showing his multitasking skills, fielding and catching in the deep whilst changing the scoreboard, cleaning car windscreens in the High Road (with baby in arms) and shining the shoes of the bar staff. After tea for the O's and Juice and a story for the Walthamstow XI, the O's started their reply. They soon found the W's 2 opening bowlers, Mirza and Archer a little hard to handle and were quickly 16 for 3. However, Mulholland and Tooth again rescued the O's (Too much this season!) with 2 superb knocks of 64 and 60 respectively. However, once the 2 ft 4 inch Ironside came on, he cleaned these 2 up and the sorry O's tail and enable the W's to snatch victory with the W's bowlers taking the last 7 O's wickets for an abismal 28 runs. Another one in the L column.
