Match Report
Date 06/06/10
Oppo – Coopersale (a)
Type – 40 Overs
Report by Liam Mulholland.

The O`s returned to winning ways with a resounding first victory against Coopersale, yet again the O`s were rocked with yet
more Termo grief, this new 2010 model is proving pretty unreliable at present having been rushed back from China after yet
another service now his guidance and tracking system is playing up and the bulk of metal was unable to get out of his front
door forcing the team to go with 10, shares in Termo plc are going to plummet on the stock market this week that is certain.
The returning Cooper decided to drive round Theydon for 40 mins missing the start of the game but the serial puffer
sneaked at least 2 extra Rothmans in. Skipper Heed won an important toss and even with only 9 players at his disposal he
had no hesitation on bowling on a damp track. Tooth & Parkes had the ball leaping off a length immediately and is was a
surprise that we had to wait for 7 overs before the first wicket fell. On arrival Cooper made a big impact on the game doing
a fine impression of `the angel of the north`as he stretched and caught the dangerous Hancock for 2. Debutant Cowell wasted
no time making an impact grabbing 4-16 just missing out on a 5 wicket haul as Hillier claimed 3-31 with his gentle dobbers
after returning to Epping and collecting his bottle that went missing somewhat the previous Sunday. Coopersale had to get
early wickets to turn this around but not today as James, pumped to the eyeballs on morphine held the innings together. He
said the wicket reminded him of a sticky dog he played on in the 1933 season against Old Crockonians Extra 9ths when he
ground out a 3 hour 5 not out. The game could have been over pretty quickly but unfortunately James would talk over every
delivery and how he played it and what he could have done with it so for the first hour we only received 5 overs.
The partnership of 37 with our man of ash pretty much settled the game, Hancock tried gamely in a fine spell but the total
was just too small to defend for the stalwart of Coopersale as the 98 year old James finished the match unbeaten on 34
rushing straight off to the awaiting press who were hot footing it to their cars to avoid the great man or as he is known
`the Gravesend legend`(www.gravensendcc.co.uk check out teams 3B X1 Captain,a ll true I tell no lies, ever)
