They say revenge is sweet! Well the O's tucked into a dish of sweetness on Sunday with a sweet victory over the Catholics.
Fresh from an on the road defeat, the O's returned to Fortress Barkingside and in tropical weather conditions set about
over turning last weeks defeat at the hands of the same team. Skipper Heed decided to bat first and conditions were not
easy with the pitch hard and bouncy but with the odd shooter, made batting very difficult. The O's early season strategy
to swap the batting order around from last week to enable everyone to get some batting under their belt, proved the right
decision. Openers Revell and Riches set about some good bowling and put on 30 odd before Riches got a snorter from the
Catholics star player Raj Mahinthan. Slow but steady process was made by the O's but the regular loss of wickets made
last weeks score of 192 seem a distant dream. Opener Revell top scored with 26 and another Good lower order knock from Marsh
of 23, who looks in great early season touch and Heed who continued last weeks form also, push the O's total up to 138 all
out. Debutant Ian Morgan running himself out with the penultimate ball to avoid having to face his son with the last ball.
#Bottlejob!
After another fabulous Beryl tea, the Catholics were in confident mood they could knock the total off with ease.
#How wrong were they!
The O's bowlers were fired up, not sure if it was for wickets or the spicy chicken bites, but they set about the catholics
stars from last week. Opening bowlers Auton and Wicks were getting the ball to talk and after both taking early wickets,
especially the wicket of last weeks star, Zaman, one of the best balls any of us have ever seen from Wicks.#ConcreteBruv,
both were replaced by the excellent bowling of Mulholland and Riches. A short mid innings break was taken when veteran
Mulholland visited the touch line to tweet about how tight his bowling was and at some point Barot would play a shot at him.
With the sound of Let's get ready to Rumbold reverberating around the field, Riches and the returning Wicks, swiftly ran
through the Catholics line up with Riches diving all over the wicket to take cathes. #No roller required. Both Riches and
Hiscock ended up taking 3 catches a piece and Riches and Wicks taking 4 wickets a piece. A great result and Barkingside
still remains a fortress for the O's. The 2012 player of the year trophy was presented afterwards with runner up Hiscock
and winner Mulholland receiving their trophies. Annanth Kumar was captain's choice and Mulholland received a special
trophy for his 100 50's for the club. #Never be beaten!
Next week the O's travel to Octopus CC for a game against fresh water opposition. Which reminds me of a joke.
An Octopus walks into a bar and shouts "I can play any musical instrument you choose"
An Englishman throws him a guitar and he plays it better than Hendrix. An Irishman pushes a piano at him and he plays it
better than Elton. A Scotsman throws him some bagpipes. After 5 minutes of fiddling the Scotsman says "What's the matter,
can't you play it?" To which the octopus replies "Play it? I'm gonna make love all night when I can get her pyjamas off"
#I'm outta here.
