Match Report Date 04/06/17 Oppo Mayfield (a) Type 40 Overs Report by Liam Mulholland O’s arrived at Mayfield in good shape after the last 2 weeks encouraging results. The usual sporting wicket awaited the O’s & skipper Mulholland had no hesitation batting first on a track that would only deteriorate, the decision made easier as Ritzy had made a schoolboy error and typed in the wrong post code so he was still 15 minutes away at the tennis club. Both openers Minkey & Barot departed quickly slamming full bungers straight down the fielders throat. Riches was fighting a rear-guard innings battling on bravely as he lost his partners to sharp rising deliveries, when he was bowled by N.Stark for 36 the innings looked over but the old guard of Mulholland & Richardson put on a more than useful 42 for the last wicket, Mulholland survived a huge appeal for a catch off his glove but square leg umpire Marsh correctly spotted it clipped him on the shoulder, it could have been more as Ritzy stroked a ball through the vacant covers for a certain 2 but he enjoyed the shot so much he held the position for at least 5 minutes, Mulholland remained unbeaten with a handy 40. 132 does not sound a big score but on that track & a jungle of an outfield it was definitely defendable. Sadly Zaman & Graham dished up a load of old pony enabling the openers to race to 40, out of nowhere Zaman started taking diving catches of his own bowling and off Richardson and suddenly O’s were back in the game at 44-4, Skipper D.Stark showed his intentions slamming his first ball and hat trick ball off Richardson for a 6 over long off. The 2 Starks took the game away from the O’s but Riches gave O’s fresh hope with 3 quick wickets conceding just 5 runs, Zaman claiming his 4th catch of the innings. When Mulholland and the team and the local residents thought Stark had snicked off 15 were still needed but unfortunately the home skipper survived. Stark blasted another maximum to finish off the game and reach his half century for a 3 wicket win for the hosts. Thorley away next week as O’s hit the road once more.
