Match Report Date 03/08/16 Oppo Godshill (a) Type 35 Overs Report by Liam Mulholland O's arrived in buoyant mood after the fine victory at Wellow the day before. Skipper Marsh in the unprecedented position of having 5 fresh players arriving for their first game of the week. Such was the depth of the touring party Captain Marvel & Gordon Graham were guesting for the home team, Marvel not a surprise as he is a fully paid up life member after guesting last year. O's batted first and incredibly lost 3 of the newbies Guru, Ali, Langrish with only 34 on the board. Another newbie Headlam then got in a good partnership with Zaman which calmed the innings down. The game changed dramatically when guest Graham, bowling to Headlam received a fearsome blow to the head as Headlam straight drove the ball back to the bowler, with cries of "CATCH IT" from competitive Marvel the only sound as everyone held their breath as Graham staggered across the square, the game was stopped for a fair while as the blood was swept away from the wicket and Graham was attended to by various paramedics and first aid professionals who arrived promptly, the distraught Headlam took the opportunity to pop down to the Fighting Cocks for a quick pint to calm his nerves plus a quick drag on that stuff he calls Rothmans, yeah course it is Simon. With Graham looking like an extra from a Tarantino film he was taken to hospital by our first aid specialists of Heed & Revell, Heed quickly taking the opportunity to give Graham a summary of the 12,456 injuries he has suffered from this season. The game eventually restarted and the intoxicated Headlam unleashed a gargantuan six that cleared the road and knocked out cold one of the New Forest ponies, monster hitting by the man now nicknamed "killer" by his batting partner Zaman. Headlam was dismissed for 24 which frankly was enough, one guy in hospital and a pony now being given the kiss of life by Morgan. Zaman held the innings together as ever finishing unbeaten on 78 as O's closed on a very competitive 176-9 with the ball kicking off some nasty red patches just short of a length. Skipper Marsh went for experience with his opening bowlers the old guard of Richardson 2-24, Mulholland 1-22 both bowling good spells to halt a possible fast start, Richardson picking up the vital wicket of Ponting who smashed a spectacular 140 last year in this fixture. Umpire Humphrey was under incredible pressure as he turned down 18 plumb LB calls from the nagging Mulholland, the wicket of Riches was celebrated with huge delight as he was caught by a delighted Mulholland at backward square of the bowling of Sai. Zaman completed a fine personal day with a cheeky spell of 5-1-8-2 to close the match off, the game slightly spoiled as "killer" was given a 5 over spell which was littered with beamers at 124 year old Ken Balfour. O's finishing comfortable winners as Godshill finished on 113-9, Woodgreen tomorrow and the possibility of a clean sweep of victories. Good news arrived from the hospital as the boy Graham now safely out of his induced coma which he celebrated with a pint of Old Shepherds Slurry.
