Match Report Date 03/08/10 Oppo – Wellow & Plaitford (a) Type – 35 Overs Report by Liam Mulholland. After some overnight negotiating the O`s allowed Wellow to bat first as Wellow had made it through to a 18 over cup final that evening and would be losing 8 players in the 2nd innings of the game the outgoing players would then be replaced in the field by O`s players. On a very dry pitch and fast outfield the signs were not good when blocker Trutwein popped the people`s champion straight back over his head for a maximum in the first over. Not a good day for the bowlers as the O`s warmed the batsman up nicely for their cup final as they amassed a huge 239-6 in 35 overs with Campbell plundering 89, Larbie and Blakey both reaching 50 and then promptly retiring through boredom. POTY Hillier came under intense fire as his floaters were mullered to all parts in a spell of 0-70. Chasing a big score a good start was vital but alas 44-4 in the 10th over not quite the order of the day. With the superstars departing at drinks at 108-4 after 19 overs their was a good chance of shock result as only 3 Wellow players remained boosted by 8 O`s players and supporters. Ramanuja departed to a fine running catch by sub fielder Costin for 49 in a stand of 91 with Mulholland who followed shortly for a very scratchy 46 caught by sub fielder Humphrey. Skipper Trutwein led his gang of 3 and 8 new friends magnificently polishing off the innings with incredible figures of 6-19 aided by 5 catches from O`s sub fielders skipper Richardson among the victims for his 51st career duck as the O`s folded for 155. Sub fielder Walker somehow bowling 1 over for only 3 after necking 2 bottles of vodka on the sideline which he would regret later as he collapsed behind the pavilion. A desperate start to the tour with Paddy Power offering 4/5 the O`s lose the next 2.
