The day started in heavy rain and ended in heavy rain and in between we had erm.. rain! However, after much debate we started half an hour late and set about completing a 35 overs a side game against a strong opposition who contained the son of JK Lever in their side. The O’s began well though and Wicks, Parkes and Revell contained the batting side and took a few wickets as well. The young Dan Riches bowled some useful deliveries and new boy Steve Bright and very old boy Steve Hillier chipped in with a couple of important wickets. The public school boys ended up with 198 off their 35 overs due to some strong hitting at the end and some comical fielding from Adam Parkes (who thinks I’ve forgotten about it!) The O’s set about the total with gusto and Liam Mulholland and Bob James shared in a brisk opening partnership of 95 before Bob was given out to the most plumb LBW decision ever given in the history of cricket. Obviously Bob disagreed with this and summoned umpire Dave Revell to his desk for afterschool detention and fag duties. The O’s next 3 wickets fell quickly including Alan Wicks run out trying a risky run after not even getting the ball off the square. Liam told him not to run but Al was having none of it and was run out by 15 yards for 1. Meanwhile the rain continued to fall and it became obvious that there was no way the game could be finished so both teams settled for an honourable draw and the O’s unbeaten run continues as they head for the tour of the New Forest.
