Match Report

Oppo Wellow & Plaitford (a)
Type 40 Overs
Report by E. Fellova

With last nights rain sweeping through Bournemouth, the prospect of a Tuesday game at Wellow looked
seriously in doubt. The heavy drinking of the touring party, especially Milky Morgo, meant tour organiser
and all round general quiz master, Mulholland, awoke to a mountain of post it notes stuck to his door and
messages left on his voicemail as to what the weather is going to be like in 4 hours time and what time
is the coach coming. Having successfully answered all this fan mail, the coach arrived at the USUAL time
of 12:30 (guys, remember that for next year eh!!) and the guys set off. Surprisingly enough, the Wellow
ground was as dry as a bone, except for the legend Blakey who had already downed 15 pints and 45 shots
and welcomed the O’s team with a barage of abuse.
Skipper Heed loss the toss and the O’s were inserted. A good start from openers Riches and Zaman saw the
score shoot along at the usual pace of 1.124 runs per over. The new number 3, tissues at hand ready to stop
any nose bleeds at being elevated that high in the order, was looking to get a decent few overs under his
belt after batting at 10 all season, was bitterly disappointed to see the two openers bat through to the 37th
over before they decided to give the rest of the side a bat. Zaman made a good 63 and Riches a good 53.
Mulholland came in and was determined to make the most of his 3 overs at the crease, smashing a quick fire 22
of 7 balls before being caught at deep long on as the ball was about to sail over the boundary for his 4th 6
of the innings. Humphrey at 4, fresh from his huge 6 on Sunday off his pad, came in and also tried to make the
most of his 2.4 overs at the crease, also smashed a quick 18 of 4 balls before he was out to a 4 year old.
The innings closing on 193 for 5.
After a smashing tea, the O’s started the bowling with two 50+ cripples, not that there was much choice as 8
of the team were over 50. Good tight bowling and the help of Wellow reversing the batting line up saw them slip
to 4-2 after 3 overs, with the ever increasingly drunk Blakey trying to smash a 6 first ball and caught at short
leg by Ollie Graham as that was as far as Blakey could hit it! Wellow soon capitulated to 12-5 and then decided
to let their proper batters have a go. Some good knocks of 26 by J Light, 43 from Young and 36 from King, saw
Wellow edge closer to their target, but the experienced bowling of Mulholland, Whittam, Richardson Graham senior,
Riches and Revell and the youthful exuberance of Graham junior saw the O’s home by 20 runs and Revell taking 5-28.
Next game Godshill.
